Missing wiener dog, possibly stolen
Flip the wiener dog has gone missing and may be victim of a dognapping operating. Regular reader Alicia writes: “One of our neighbors had their dog stolen….or go missing this morning. Word through the grapevine is that this is the 3rd or 4th dog-napping in our area in the past week.”
Here are the details:
Name: Flip
Occupation: Being super cute
Type: Dachshund aka wiener dog
Appearance: Brownish red with white patch on chest
Gender: Male
Weight: Approx 13 pound
Clothing: Red Crocodile Collar with tiny bonesFlip’s disappearance:
Around 9:45am today (1/18), Flip went outside on the 600 block of North 31st Street to potty in the vacant lot next door. Flip’s owner went back inside to grab something, taking her eyes off Flip for less than 30 seconds. Once going back outside, she couldn’t see Flip in the vacant lot. But, she did see a black male with an older white/grey Buick or Cadillac put something into his back seat. Flip’s owner thinks this man might have put Flip into his back seat.
She is offering a cash reward for Flip’s return home. If you have any information, please give her a call at 814-4556. Or, leave a comment here.
If you let your dog outside unattended in a vacant lot when it’s 30 degrees out and someone picks him up, they are not a thief, they are a saint.
This is quite alarming, when good dogs like Flip and I are doing our best to be “man’s best friend,” and some despicable human being takes advantage of our good nature for his own enrichment. I will keep a eye our for Flip during my own daily walks, and I will certainly not let my daddy get out of my sight for a moment!!
J, If they were concerned for the dog’s safety in the cold weather, they could have knocked on a couple of doors before leaving with the dog. Unlikely they were just a concerned citizen.
I hope Flip is found safe and sound.
This should serve as a reminder to keep your dog on a leash when it is not in your own secure, fenced yard.
There are many reasons why leash laws are relevant: your dog’s safety is just one of those reasons.

‘scuse me but unattended dog evacuating in a vacant lot is not responsible dog ownership on several levels.
Amazing – the level of empathy that is exhibited by these comments! All of us make mistakes in judgment everyday – that is part of being human. This person(s) are missing their dog that they obviously care about. I was hoping that 2009 would bring more compassion from neighborhood. I bet most of you would not have the audacity to say this to your neighbors face if they were in this situation! I think everyone is entitled to their opinions but a certain level of civility is in order on this site!
If someone is stealing pets, that’s simply unacceptable.
Everyone… please… Bark less, wag more! 🙂
Neighbors, I appreciate your concern…please instead of ripping on me- for stepping in my home to slide shoes on and coming back out for Flip in less than 30 seconds, just be compassionate and helpful concerning his dissappearance. Believe me, I spoil my dog rotten…he has been with me for 6 years and he is traumatized right now- I’m sure!
The siting updates:
32nd and N Street, 33rd and Q Streets, 33rd and Marshall Streets (at the Blue Wheeler Market)…he is obviously being seen around….there is no coincedence that there is a loose brown “hot-dog” in our neighborhood. Sounds like he has escaped whomever first had him and he is hopefully with a good samaritan keeping him in from the cold that just doesn’t know my contact info yet. I have over 750+ flyers out…beleive me- we will be giving a $300 Reward (if we must) to whomever returns him! & a HOMECOMING PARTY for the neighborhood to celebrate his return and Churchill UNITY! You have been awesome!
Leah, good luck finding him. I hope you can spend some time around the areas where he’s been reported, he probably will respond to your voice if he’s nearby. Wag wag, no barking from me. I’m a cat person but lost a kitten some years ago (four month old kitten fell out a window, took a walk and hid for six days – and was found, crying loudly on the night of the sixth day) so I have hope for you!
I hope all you people you can find the time to bash the sad owner will find the time to help find the pup. I know I will look for when I am in the area today. Best of Luck for Flip and the owner. Sam Nelson
LATEST SIGHTINGS:

Flip will come to you if you call him….I am very confident he knows he’s waiting for a rescue!! Praise God- the snow today and kids being out of school will help the spotting! Just imagine…brown dog- white snow!!
Thanks again, CHURCHILL!
Good luck to you Leah! I have a little dachshund myself and wouldn’t know what to do it I lost him…Please keep us posted if you find him!
THANKS CHURCHILL!! FLIP IS HOME!!!
Just think of what all of our efforts can do if this awful thing happens to anyone else!!
He was released from the arms of the “enemy” last Saturday and returned last Wed night, when a Henrico Co. Volunteer Paramedic finally saw my signs after picking him up and placing him with a family in Chesterfield for about 4 days!
It’s truly an amazing rescue story and I thank all of you for your support and prayers! We are having a HOMECOMING for him on Sat at our home…welcome to call if you are interested in coming-814-4556
