5-way intersection closed until April
03/10/2009 8:27 PM by John M
The 5-way intersection at M Street, 25th Street, and Jefferson Avenue is now closed. Anybody ever remember a time when all 5 roads were closed here before?
Biggest waste of money! Just like that stuff at Trigg St on Chestnut Hill.
I’m excited! Down with all weird traffic lights(all traffic lights?!?) and up with nice roundabouts!
I went to EDI Center, today, to pay bills and all the construction workers were doing was standing around talking. No wonder it’s going to take until April. This whole project is a disgrace. I pity Que Pasa for what they have to put up with.
Hang in there Que Pasa… you’re worth walking/driving around that mess to get to!
I don’t think its a waste of money and I look forward to how it will beautify the intersection.
I think it will make life much more difficult for pedestrians, as now there will be no stop signs. Roundabouts only help car traffic; they do not help pedestrian traffic.
Great investment for a gateway into the community. I can’t wait to see it done.
@tiny – I think that it’ll help with walking. The distance from the curb to the safe spot at the median is shorter than from one side of the street to the other, so crossing the road is two shorter hops instead of one longer one. The pedestrian spot for each feeder road is a little further back from where all of the roads meet than it used to be.
I’ve been through there on bike often enough to think that this *must* be an improvement.
Question about the bus stops – are they going to move the stop next to the beauty salon on Jefferson street? The other day, I was behind a bus that had to stop there and it blocked traffic. If it was moved back 20 yards it wouldn’t impede traffic so much.
Its also important to note that the traffic circle will slow traffic, which will make it safer for pedestrians.
ugh. this entire project seems like a great way to throw money down the drain. having lived half a block from this intersection, i never found it to be very challenging. somehow, i feel like this will be another ‘spend a lot of money to make it more confusing’ like the newish toll situation on 76.
