Department of Social Services seeking foster and adoptive homes for teens

The City of Richmond Department of Social Services is actively recruiting individuals, couples and families who can provide foster and adoptive homes for teens in foster care. Currently, there are almost 300 youth ages 14 and over in the custody of the Department. Of all the kids currently in care, the majority were removed from the zip code areas of 23223 and 23224.

Many of these youth will age out of the foster care system with no permanent connections to a family or their home communities, making them more vulnerable to homelessness, poverty, substance abuse, crime and even continuing the cycle of abuse and neglect.

Here are two ways you can make a huge difference:

1. If you or someone you know would make a great resource parent, please call the hotline 646-KIDS (5437) to learn more information. It may not be as hard as you think to help a teen pursue their goals and become a responsible adult.
