The Antionette V. Irving Foundation, Inc will have their annual Community and Kids Day “Weekend of Hope” @ 3701 R Street.

“Our Mission is to provide the community and kids with a day that will promote pride and family interaction in the East End. A day of reflection and fun for all in the community, a blast from the past connecting with the present in an attempt to empower a better future for the community and its youth.

Our hope is to provide kids with an opportunity to realize their dreams by visioning success through positive role models. Our goal is to reclaim the community and its youth from violence, delinquency and drugs by showing them positive alternatives.”

Church Hill Walking Tour

Examine 19th century architecture and modern revitalization efforts in Richmond’s oldest intact neighborhood. Developed by Major William Mayo, Church Hill is home to St. John’s Church, where Patrick Henry made his famous speech, and the city’s largest number of antebellum structures.

Meet your guide at Patrick Henry Park across from St. John’s Church, E. Broad and 24th streets. $10 (Pay your guide on the day of the tour. ) Members: $5

Public forum on pupil assignment for Chandler students

The Richmond City School Board will hold a public hearing on Monday, April 20, from 4:30–5:30PM to receive public comment on the recommendations regarding the redistricting of school boundaries for students who currently attend Chandler Middle School. Middle schools that may be affected by the closing of Chandler are
Henderson and Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle Schools.

The public hearing will be held in the School Board Room located on the 17th floor of City Hall. For more details, call (804)780-7716.

Public hearing on amendments to the Downtown Master Plan

A public hearing will be held at the City Planning Commission meeting in Council Chambers on the 2nd floor of City Hall. The City Planning Commission will be considering a number of amendments to the Downtown Master Plan adopted in October 2008, including viewsheds, waterfront access, and development standards for the former Tarmac property (AKA “Echo Harbor”).
