Missing 20-year-old cat on M Street
05/13/2009 4:51 PM by John M
Twenty-year-old grey&white tabby missing from 21st&M Street since yesterday; has never been outside before. No ID tag. Hard of hearing but very friendly. She is very thin, matted fur, and has upper respiratory infection. Contact Brandi at (434)480-0819 if you have any information.
It is not unusual for old sick cats to disappear. I hope they find her well but they should also be prepared.
I’m sorry to hear it. I’m a cat lover (with cats). Sounds like she lives not far from me – will keep an eye out.
Has she been found yet? I hope so…
Thank you all for the comments… I am fairly certain she is not still alive. I just wish I knew what happened. she was not well. I am afraid she got into some shrubber/under a deck/in a storage building.
Hang in there Brandi… years ago, my 22 year old cat went missing and like yours she was very thin, 7 lbs, deaf, not all there (old age) and no collar. I posted flyers everywhere and after several days of very hot & humid weather… just when I had given up all hope, she suddenly appeared one morning at my door, no worse for the wear. Keep the faith.
Hi Brandi,
I know you must be heart sick.
I’ve done hundreds of pet portraits for my clients around the country. Many of those pets have passed on and in some cases, like yours, were sick and they simply went away. All hard, personal losses regardess of the circumstances. There are not many places in this world where can you find such love on tap. 20 years; what a gift.
What is her name?
Neighbors… I encourage EACH of YOU to take a few moments and check your shrubs, crawl spaces (as best you can), sheds, etc. Hopefully, one of you will find Brandi’s beloved pet dazed and confused.
Still … as #1 posted — older animals, when its their time, will often go into seclusion. If in our search, we discover that to be the case … it will at the very least, provide Brandi with an answer, however sad it may be.
Hard of hearing? What’s wrong with calling it Deaf? I’m Deaf. Hard of hearing is just politically correct that was created by hearing people to define and divide us in many groups.
Now we gotta say HoH animals? C’mon!

thank you all so much for you support, it is very comforting to know that this is such a tight community. Her name is Buffy. Please check your shrubs/decks/and sheds. And if so be the case- I would like to know regardless of her condition if she is found. I welcome phone calls 24/7.
#8 I have a cat who is hard of hearing. He is not deaf. Deaf means you can not hear at all, hard of hearing means just that.
Brandi, So sorry to hear about Buffy. I live around the block (23rd and M) and will keep an eye out and look around my block when I go out for walks.
Hopefully she will be found and returned or even come home on her own.
I haev two cats who have gotten out in the past and have been gone for a day or two then finally show back up so I know how difficult this must be for you.
Brandi, did Buffy ever appear? I just lost my old cat of 18 years. She was thin and frail and enjoyed being outside in the sun. She mostly slept all day on the front porch and was very social with everyone who walked by. I am fearing someone may have taken her. She was completely defenseless and the other cats respected her. Do you have any recommendations on how I can go about searching for her?
Thank you
@Eddie–if an old cat suddenly disappears, I’m sorry to say that more often than not she went to find a place to die. I’ve seen it happen many times, it’s a behavior with old cats and dogs, even ones who don’t seem to move all that much towards the end. Again, I’m sorry.
It’s not much, but sometimes its fun to watch the kittens play or nap (sooo cute!) in the window of the vet on 25th st. Maybe it will brighten your day?
