The Democratic primary will be held on June 9th. The purpose of this election is to nominate political party candidates to be on the ballot in the November general election. Voters in our area will select candidates for Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and Richmond City Sheriff.
The three candidates for governor are: Creigh Deeds, Terry McAuliffe, and Brian Moran.
The two candidates for lieutenant governor are: Jody Wagner and Michael Signer. Jon Bowerbank withdrew from the race on May 18, but his name will be on the ballot.
The two candidates for Richmond City Sheriff are incumbent Sheriff C.T.Woody and Major Antionette Irving.
The deadline to apply for an absentee ballot through the mail in this election is Tuesday June 2, 2009. The deadline to apply and vote an absentee ballot in person is 5:00 PM, Saturday, June 6, 2009, except in the case of certain emergencies. The Office of the General Registrar will be open for absentee voting: during regular business hours, and from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Saturday, June 6, 2009.
Call (804) 646-5950 for more information.
Go Mike Signer!!!!
I noted that almost all of the candidates listed themselves as a “Democrat” in their ads. It will be interesting to see if they continue to do this in the general election.
My guess is “no”.
I think Antionette Irving would bring some professional management practices to the City Jail. I love the fact that she has led the movement to have the Henrico Jail nationally certified. Every profession has its standards and it is obvious that our City Jail has much room for improvement. Please consider supporting her for Richmond City Sheriff.
Where do you vote if you are not absentee?
Bullwinkle, same as you vote during a regular election. If you aren’t sure where you should vote, call the city registrar’s office at 646-5950, give them your street address and they’ll tell you where to vote.
At the risk of an oxymoron, you vote where you normally vote. that’s available through the State Board of ELections website or the city Voter registrar website.
Here is the SBE web site link for that info – you can always call and get a nice voice on the line too to confirm the location:
