Shooting at Pink and Venable Streets
06/01/2009 9:34 PM by John M
Police have the blocks around Pink and Venable Streets taped off after an early evening shooting.
I thought I heard a gunshot around 6:30 or so. They had the entire block cordoned of with tape and had cars posted up on Pink and on Venable.
I heard that, too, and had one of those “are those shots?” moments…
16-year-old shot in Richmond’s East End (RTD 6/2/09)
Not good advertising for the beautiful “new” BHC homes on Pink.
–just learned that the vacant lot at Pink & Venable that is the epicenter of all this bad shit is owned by the notorious Bayou Properties. Damn it!
Has anyone else noticed a broad increase in loitering, public drunkeness and vagrancy almost everywhere in the neighborhood? I have.
There are four young men who have started hanging out at the corner of Pink & Venable Streets in the past two months. They are the source of this problem and need to be removed. Please call police if you see ANY suspicious activity at all.
Are you talking to your sector lieutenants/precinct commanders about this?
#6 — It’s called Summer.
I find that it’s all about presence. I know it’s a risk, but I think if all the good citizens of the community get outside you’ll see a reduction in folks just hanging on street corners.
Get out there and go for neighborhood walks. Grab your partners, kids, and dogs and walk the neighborhood. Pick up trash as you go. It’s good for you and it’s good for the neighborhood.
When you pass those folks that are hanging on the corners, talk to them. Engage them. If they’re standing around making a lot of noise, ask them to be quiet. If they’re using offensive language, ask them to clean it up. If they’re hanging in their cars with music blasting, tell them that you live in this neighborhood and would appreciate it if they would turn the volume down. If the language used in their music is offensive, remind them that they are in a neighborhood full of children and that language like that is not appropriate.
If you annoy them, maybe they’ll find a new place to hang out.
However, let me also sate, if they’re just peacefully hanging out, having a beer with a couple of friends, being respectful with their noise volumes and language, then your complaints are not justified.
Thanks, #9. Has anyone ELSE noticed a broad increase in loitering, public drunkeness and vagrancy almost everywhere in the neighborhood beyond the usual summertime antics? I have.
