Beautiful Richmond

Detail of a panorama of the city skyline as seen from the end of Grace Street by Will Weaver (in the Church Hill flickr pool).
This is your idea of beautiful? Jesus Christ, get out of town once in awhile. Richmond is, was, and always will be an armpit.
To each, his own. If you don’t like it – move.
Great photos! Thanks for sharing.
It’s a shame that some people are as sour as #1. Richmond has some scenes of squalor and ugliness, some neglect and just dirtiness. But it also has some incredible beauty. Areas along the river are matchless; Maymont and the Dooley Mansion are wonderful. The housing stock of the city is incredible, not just in Church Hill and Union Hill and the fan, but south of the river in Woodland Heights, Westover Hills and Forest Hill, and even in the run-down dowagers along both sides of Brookland Park Boulevard. To say that Richmond is an armpit speaks more to the beholder than it does to the city.
Paul,
I’ve been around the world and while Richmond is not a 7th Wonder, I find it and the people I’ve met here to be just that… wonderful.
It’s beautiful in some respects, and it isn’t in others. But sometimes you have to look past everything that might be bad or displeasing about it. No one said Richmond was perfect, but it’s where we live.
I fully agree with #2’s sentiment.
