Summer Kick-Off Block Party

@ Now ALSO at the FRC! – What’s summer without a block party!? Come join us this Saturday, June 20 at 3 p.m. for FREE sno cones, popcorn, moon bounce, music and fun up in Church Hill. This will also be the last day to register for summer classes, such as art, dance, drama and creative writing at the Robinson Theater.

Church Hill Walking Tour

Examine 19th century architecture and modern revitalization efforts in Richmond’s oldest intact neighborhood. Developed by Major William Mayo, Church Hill is home to St. John’s Church, where Patrick Henry made his famous speech, and the city’s largest number of antebellum structures.

Meet your guide at Patrick Henry Park across from St. John’s Church, E. Broad and 24th streets. $10 (Pay your guide on the day of the tour. ) Members: $5

Family Resource Center Block Party

Free to the public. Clothing, shoes, and nonperishable food donations would be greatly appreciated for the East District Family Center.

2009 Summer Reenactment Series

The Patrick Henry Committee invites you to bring your friends and family to a reenactment of the Second Virginia Convention of March 1775. In the presence of Washington, Jefferson, and other notable Virginians, Patrick Henry delivered his passionate call for liberty, uttering the immortal words, “Give me liberty or give me death!”

Tickets are handed out on a first come, first served basis starting at 1:00pm. At 1:30pm, there is a music program on the 1905 Stein organ. The reenactment begins at 2:00pm.

A.C.O.R.N. Renovator’s Open House

The Alliance to Conserve Old Richmond Neighborhoods invites you on Thursday, June 25, from 6-7:30pm, to explore two renovations currently underway in the Church Hill North Historic District. Begin at 907 N. 27th Street and see the dramatic transformation of this Italianate residence.

Then a few steps down the sidewalk, visit the renovation of 2614 Q Street to see another example of how historic rehabilitation is reviving this Richmond neighborhood.
Ed Stone of ES Group and Tom O’Kelly of Jewels General Contractors will be on hand to
discuss the details of the projects. Light refreshments will be served.
