Strange things are afoot at the Sunny Market
06/30/2009 6:20 AM by John M
After 18 months of vacancy since closing in early 2008, something is going on at the Sunny Market on 25th Street.
We’ve heard that another grocery store might be going in, though we’d heard earlier that the long-time market might be readapted as an event space for a local funeral home. Anybody got any, like, facts?
What’s the address? The city database won’t let me look up building permits without an address.
I found one for 1001 North 25th (which includes 2514 P St) but am not sure that’s the right address. The one I found says the proposed use is B10 – Misc. Business, and certificate of occupancy will not be determined until issued. It’s for Jewels Inc, and includes demo, clean up debris, brace wall and wall stabilization, total cost $5,000 (which isn’t much).
Its the odd side of the 900 block of Q Street.
crd, I think that’s for the the vacant shell building just to the north of the Sunny Market: maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=1001+n+25th+st+rich…
I saw some people working there recently. It’d be great to see something good happen to that property.
john_m, I think you meant to say the odd side of the 900 block of N 25th Street.
Yep, you’re correct. My mind is playing tricks on me.
A little bird tells me that this will be converted into 4 retail spaces, including a convenience store.
There’s a building permit for 913 N. 25th St., says it’s zoned M3 Retail Supermarket. That must be it. No work authorized on it, Proposed Work stated as “Request for Zoning Confirmation Letter.” Parcel Owner is Yong Su Corporation, Applicant was Group 5 Investments Inc. and it was completed on May 1, 2009.
I heard itz gwan be a WHOLE FOODS MARKET!
Wait, no, make that…
A TRADER JOE’S!
Wait, no, make that…
An ANTHTROPOLOGIE!
Wait, no…
A TALBOT’S!
Wait, no…
An APPLE STORE!
That’s it! It’s the new East End location of the APPLE STORE!
YAY! I CAN’T WAIT!!!
Stretch, you joke, but I still fantasize about having a natural foods co-op.
Whole Foods, Ukrops, Kroger. I don’t care as long as we actually can have a grocery store in walking distance. The Market is great, but can be a little pricey and doesn’t always have a great selection.
Probably more like the Food Circus over by Creighton than any of those chains…
What about a Bloom by Food Lion?
I think it should be demolished and something nicer and presentable for the neighborhood built.
i herd it is going to be a wal-mart
i think it should be a fried chicken/liquor/coffee/takeout extravaganza!!!
Elphaba, you forfeited your right to an opinion on this matter when you abandoned the Hill for the big city. the neighborhood will consider your proposed chicken wing/coffee/takeout idea. until then you don’t get a vote.
