A special holiday message from the Richmond Police Department:
Residents are reminded for backyard celebrations that fireworks and the firing of guns are illegal within the city limits, not just on July Fourth, but at all times.
Can the Dogwood Dell fireworks be seen from Libby Hill Park?
Coen on, did the RPD really send this out? New Years is one thing but I never heard of Richmonders pulling out the gats and heaters for the 4th (except to conduct serious business).
#1 shockoe, I doubt it, too many trees in the way. Might be able to see a few if they shoot them way up, though.
shockoe – no. The Federal Reserve building gets in the way. And on the other side (at the Diamond), MCV gets in the way. However, you can see the reflection of the Diamond’s fireworks in the glass window of the Federal Reserve.
But trust me, we tried to make a picnic out of it and you really cannot see them at all.
@tvnb –
Here is the entirety of the press release:
thanks!
Depending on the angle they are fired you can see them near the statue area on 29th from Dogwood Dell. The tress block the view from the main portion of the park.
Bring a chair and a cooler. Depending on who is firing them off, you can see some fireworks from south side as well. Most of those are pretty small and maybe illegal. You can’t hear any of them so you have to supply your own sound effects. Ooooh…..ahhhhh.
Are Spud Guns considered fireworks? I know the ATF says they are not firearms. Kerchunk.
#2… There are absolutely Richmonders who pop off a few rounds to celebrate special occasions. New Years and July 4th are the big ones. Depending on how close you live to those neighbors, you may be able to find proof of this in the morning. Just remember: What goes up must come down.
Re #8 – Yep. I put a piece of plywood on the roof on the Jeep’s soft-top on these two holidays. Definitely a round-blowng fave.
Last year we pretended that we were in an old Western film.
You will be able to see all kinds of amateur displays on the southside, at least I can see them from my place. Better off going to the Dell and enjoying the whole program. The National Guard always sets off a few howitzers during the 1812 Overture. I’m pretty sure they are blanks.
