Keep an eye out for the cops…
Richmond Police Chief Norwood and the 103rd Basic Recruit Class will be going for a run around the neighborhood this afternoon.
Chief Teaches While Running with Recruits in the City

July 1, 2009
When Chief Bryan T. Norwood first took the helm of the Richmond Police Department, he started community walk throughs with his Command Staff across the city. Together, they knocked on doors and talked with citizens about their concerns and how to best address them.
Â
Now he will start bringing his soon-to-be police officers into neighborhoods with him. Starting today, Chief Norwood and the 103rd Basic Recruit Class will run through different parts of the city to learn the area, create a presence and help citizens get to know their new police recruits.
Â
“I think it’s important to make sure our recruits are in the best physical shape and that they know the city,†Chief Norwood said. “This is another way to help our residents get to know us by being out where they live and work in the city.â€
Â
Chief Norwood and the 24 police recruits will run at 4 p.m. today through the Church Hill neighborhood. They will start at 22nd and East Main streets.

I saw them at Jefferson Park. They were working out hard and yelling and being all pumped up. It was actually pretty cool and energetic, and getting some attention.
I think this is a killer way to show presence. Good job!
Boot camp on Venable…was a treat to see and hear this group.
We had a great run through Church Hill – thanks for all the support from the citizens – a beautiful day on the Hill
Chief Norwood, Academy Staff and I are getting our new recruits ready for the streets.
These recruits will be your neighborhood officers in about 5 months.
take care
Great Idea!!!
Bryan Norwood doesn’t often wear a flashy uniform, and he doesn’t hang out with the politicians. He just does a good job day in and day out as chief.
I think it is great to see police “foot’n it”. No joke my corner of 24th and Fairmount has been less traveled by the loud talkers for the past 2 days and it makes us feel safer. Next we should tackle loud music!
Never thought I’d say this, but thank you mister police man.
