Sheriff’s Office has school supplies for kids with incarcerated parents
08/21/2009 10:34 PM by John M
The Richmond City Sheriff’s Office’s Second Annual Back to School Event is set for Saturday August 22 from 11AM-2PM at the Richmond City Jail:
While other events are designed to support the community as a whole, the purpose of this event is to provide school supplies to the more than 500 children who have a parent housed in the Richmond City Jail. Boxes of note-books, paper, pencils, crayons and other school supplies will be distributed in an event held outside in front of The Richmond City Jail.
Stuff we don’t think about when it’s not in our everyday lives, huh? Challenges of the parents are not the kids’ fault, but the kids sure do suffer for them sometimes.
Excellent cause, and a fab example of positive government intervention. Thanks Sherrifs!
What a great cause. It’s so uplifting to read about people who are concerned with the well being of others. It makes such a huge difference in all the people who are a part of it.
Thank you for all you are doing! This is great. I am so glad that we can all take part in helping children have a great school year, no matter what the circumstance may be.
Great point, Shannon. Children are subjected to their parents’ challenges and issues on a regular basis, through no fault of their own.
There’s a great organization named Assisting Families of Inmates that focuses on providing support specifically to children whose parents are incarcerated. Check them out at http://www.afoi.org.
