No leaf collection until December

The 2009-2010 leaf collection schedule map (PDF) has been published. While collection begins in November in some parts of the city, the East End will not see leaf collection until the end of December. There is speculation that this will be the last year that the city collects leaves in an attempt to save money.
They always collected our leaves here in Fulton BEFORE any leaves ever fell from the trees. I reckon it won’t be much of loss for us if the do away with the “service.”
A great way to deal with leaves on your own little piece of Earth is to compost them. While your pile may be very large initially, the leaves pack down quickly.
If you mow them with a lawnmower or chop them up with a chopper/shredder, the process will happen even faster.
You can use the chopped-up leaves for mulch around plants and trees; afterall, leaves are the original mulch.
Kimmy, it always seems as if they collect leaves in Union Hill the day before the big maple in our yard loses all its leaves at once.
I agree with Juliellen wholeheartedly on composting fallen leaves. Even if you don’t have a lawn mower or a chopper or shredder the leaves will compost, they’ll just take longer to break down.
Yeah, we’ve never actually put leaves out. Composting is the way to go. I just always found it amusing that of all things Fulton got put first for, it was for collecting leaves that had yet to fall.
