Halloween in Church Hill?
10/12/2009 4:09 PM by John M
Halloween up here is hit or miss, with some blocks getting in on the candy action and some staying dark. Does anyone else think that’d be great for the area to have something to rival Hanover Avenue? Any idea which blocks will be good for kids this year?
Oh my gosh, my children get so much candy on Halloween it’s ridiculous. We usually go home after their bags get so heavy that they are hard to carry. We tend to trick or treat North of Broad, between 31st and 27th.
I just make sure to buy candy that *I* like. That way if no one shows up, I don’t care 🙂
We trick or treat on Broad, Grace, Franklin, and Libby Terrace -always fun for the kids and neighborhood adults alike. After making the rounds, we might duck into a neighbors house or our own for a beverage while the kids rumage through their loot. Who wants to get in a car and drive on the best night to be out in the year?
Trick or treating is good enough that my friends with kids in the westend make their way to the hill.
Maybe somebody should hand out yard signs that say, “Trick or Treat Here on Halloween” so that people can get an idea of where to go in advance. Also, neighbors will know if its worth hanging out to pass out candy if other people are doing it too.
Suz and I will be on our stoop at 27th and Marshall.
I suspect that Gray and kids [#3] make a stop in the 2800 block of East Franklin, it’s traditionally got a big show out. Might not be quite the rival to Hanover Avenue, but it’s close. Particularly since Chuck Wrenn did a big show before he had kids, and now he’s got two little girls, so I’m sure he really plays it up.
Even before he had kids, Chuck put out dozens of pumpkins…other things varied as the years went by, but he always has had a good show.
With it being on a Saturday and us not having kids, our house will be dark this year as we’ll be at a halloween party.
This is my first year on M Street, I’d love to hand out candy but not sure on the traffic around here. Anyone bring their kids this far north?
I think Halloween is an awesome opportunity for some community interaction. Just be mindful of the potential for big “kids” with guns ringing your doorbell for tricks or treats.
Be sure and stop at Broad between 22 and 23 – the Smiths always have tons of pumpkins and decorations!
Why don’t all you old people join in and have fun on Halloween. Stop pretending you’re not home, cut your lights on and give out candy. Everyone should STAY home and give out candy so people can walk from house to house; that’s the point.
I’d just like to send out a HUGE thank you to the RPD for giving out candy to the neighborhood kids. I think that was one of my favorite moments of the night. Thank you so much for all that you do for our community.
