Let’s talk about breaking and entering

A reader has sent in word of an overnight B&E on the 2700 block of East Franklin Street, and another has sent in a report of an arrest made in a B&E on 25th Street this morning (though this was apparently not the sought-after Sterling Lewis). The man arrested on 25th Street had apparently broken into a house already, and when the police arrived he took of running and was caught trying to break into another house to hide.
At the E. Franklin house they stole their car as well.
Interesting: richmondcrime.org reports a B&E and auto-theft on the 2500 block of East Grace 9 days ago.
On Friday night someone came into our fenced and gated yard… tampered with our shed (though didn’t get in), broke a number of our flower pots, and stole a nice big coleman ice chest from our back porch.
This is on 22nd St. Near M. I filed a report with the police.
Over the past few months my next door neighbor had his shed damaged in a break in attempt, and at the house two doors down from mine our neighbor’s truck was TOTALLY jacked up by thieving bastards (windshield busted out, etc.)
If it ain’t chained down, it’s walking. And if it is chained down, it might be walking…
Just an FYI.
It seems the problem is wide spread. And the things being stolen and tampered with, some are trivial, some are not.
My neighbors flower pot, the kind that hang from your porch, was stolen last week as well.
Plus the two break-in’s on my block alone.
There is a house near me that is in foreclosure, but teenagers are still living in it after the woman who owned it moved out.
On my, block there seems to be a lot more “coming and going” into certain houses as the foreclosures increase.
Its out of control. In the almost ten years I have lived in various parts of Church Hill, I have NEVER seen this kind of rampant vandalism and theft. Perhaps I was just out of the loop though.
We all just have to keep an eye out for each other as usual. The only trespasser we’ve noticed lately is a HUGE raccoon.
These crooks suck eggs!
Back in the olden days my brother and his partner walked a beat and it was effective. I know the police can’t be everywhere at once, and I do see cars patrolling…but it would give me comfort to see more manpower ON THE STREET. You can see and hear a car coming a block away.
those crooks not only SUCK eggs…they steal them as well. 18 to be exact. freshly bought.
Smith and Wesson should be on patrol.
Those guys get much needed results usually.
