Prostitution stings nets 28 arrests citywide
12/28/2009 2:57 PM by John M
RPD conducted several citywide prostitution stings on December 3, 4, 9, and 10 in which twenty-one ladies of the evening and afternoon were picked up (including 3 in our little area north of Fairmount Avenue).
“We’re responding to complaints from city residents who live or work in the areas where prostitution occurs,” Major John Keohane said.
Four of the 28 arrests were local:
- Dec. 4 – Jonett Dixon, 38 – 2000 block of U Street
- Dec. 4 – Marie Russell, 31 – 2300 block of Fairmont Ave.
- Dec. 9 – Tracy Hamlin, 39 – 1900 block of Brauers Lane
- Dec. 10 – Tracy Hamlin, 39 – 3300 block of Nine Mile Road.
I am sure something else would “sting” if you frequented those ladies. (I think Hamlin has a “disco stick”- meaning a pen*s.)
Where are the customer’s pictures? No supply without demand, and if one is innocent until proven guilty, so should the other be… Sure, these women are committing a crime, but they wouldn’t be able to operate without clientele.
The fact that these pics are made public seems like kicking these women when they are down, instead of looking at the entire picture and holding everyone who facilitates the interactions as equally accountable. Should be posting pics of the men who cruise them, too. Maybe if the guys were also humiliated they would stop coming to Church Hill to get taken care of, and deal with the reasons why they feel the need to frequent hookers in the first place.
Cops sting the drug buyers just like they do the drug sellers. I would like to see more equality in this situation.
@ Shannon- If you click the link the “Johns” are there. After seeing their pictures, It is obvious the only “play” they would be for pay…Now about that dicso stick?
Ummmm…PRETTY!
WhoDat!, thanks for answering my question.
“I love them whores they never judge you
What can you say when your a whore? “
Who the hell would pay anything to get with the likes of “Hamlin”? I’d gladly pay to get that away from me…
WhoDat, Hamlin looks a lot like a female juvie in the HBO series “The Wire.” Scary. Ever since I sat through all five seasons of a boxed set of “The Wire,” I keep seeing the same (sort of) faces – even tho the show was set in B’more.
Also, I won’t disagree with you as to the disco stick – and I think a couple of the others might have one, too. It’s really sad, actually. Another sad thing is how old some of these folks are, both the johns and prossies.
I may draw some fire for that comment, but it’s how I feel – how sad they are doing this, how sad their physical health and mental health and overall standard of living (and HIV status) must be. I’m not saying it’s wrong for the cops to bust them, it’s good – but I just think the whole situation is SAD. Just an observation.
@crd, I agree with your last comments. It IS sad and makes me grateful for what I have and circumstances in which I live. Agreed – what they are doing is illegal and deserves the arrest though.
I think we all need to have a little more compassion for people who end up turning to this kind of lifestyle for whatever their reasons are. It is not what anyone truly wants.
Thank you, Just Another Sarah.
This is interesting – this thread is staying up because of compassionate comments, as opposed to the usual cranky comments that keep threads on top! Plus after I posted my comments in #8, I ran into someone who figured out who I am and told me he agreed with me about how sad it is.
Then, I ran into this article about what Dallas police are doing –
http://www.khou.com/news/texas-news/Dallas-police-aim-to-help-not-jail-prostitutes-80710382.html
Basically, they’re rounding up truck stop prossies, and offering them a chance to straighten out. Not a whole lot of them turn their lives around, but some do. Apparently truck stop prossies in Dallas are on the low rungs – I tend to think that Fairmont, Chamberlayne Ave., and Jeff Davis Highway here are also sort of low rung, given that the ‘ladies’ there aren’t exactly high dollar. Anyone think that program would work in Richmond? I’m just curious. Maybe it’s too much to ask here, who knows.
Why do so many people feel sorry for criminals? Don’t. They don’t want you to. They do this because thats the life they chose. It simply does not matter WHY you break the law, just that you do.
There would be no demand if people had no sexual urges; thats it. Its that cut and dry. There will always be demand.
