Governor’s Award for Educational Excellence for 2 city schools
Bellevue Elementary and Fairfield Court Elementary were the only 2 city schools among the 153 schools statewide recognized with the 2010 Governor’s Award for Educational Excellence.
The RTD explains the criteria:
To qualify for the Governor’s Award for Educational Excellence, schools and school divisions must meet all state and federal achievement benchmarks for at least two consecutive years and achieve applicable excellence goals for elementary reading, enrollment in Algebra I by eighth grade, enrollment in college-level courses, high school graduation, attainment of advanced diplomas, increased attainment of career and industry certifications, and participation in the Virginia Preschool Initiative. Schools and school divisions also earn bonus points for other performance measures, including the Governor’s Nutrition and Physical Activity Scorecard.
Interesting timing for this award considering how many Richmond parents are trying to flee the Richmond School system now that the economic downturn has forced them to pull their children out of private schools.
I wonder if these awards will result in increased interest from these desperate parents and move some away from Fox and Mary Munford?
Bravo to those 2 schools! It’s a shame though that the excellence appears to end at the Elementary school level
New to the neighborhood, toured Bellevue today because our son will be old enough for the pre k program next year. 18 children per classroom, dedicated teachers, beautiful environment for learning, a playground with a view, in the community, and awards for excellence ….
What’s wrong with Bellevue, why aren’t more families in Church Hill sending their kids here? What don’t I know?
#3 Response to Heather
I think this is a wonderful opportunity for residents to respond honestly to Heather’s question, without getting into debates. John, I hope you move this article to the top so others will see it first and respond.
