Agenda for the 2/23 CAR meeting
02/10/2010 1:39 PM by John M
The agenda for the February 23 Commission of Architectural Review meeting (PDF) hold 4 projects in the area, including the first from Union Hill: 2410 VENABLE ST – Construct new outbuilding; 2709 E MARSHALL ST – Open up original entryway and install door; JEFFERSON PARK – Landscaping improvements; 909 N 24TH ST – Rehabilitate single-family residence
The Landscaping Improvements to Jefferson Park refer to the hillside stabilization project and landscaping of the hillside of Jefferson Park that was damaged during Hurricane Gaston. These improvements have been a long time coming and are in need of expressed community support. Please contact the Commission of Architectural Review to support these park improvements. If you have time to write a letter or show up in support of the project that would be wonderful.
This is a good project, one that is designed to both stabilize and beautify the hillside, and provide a pedestrian connection from Union Hill to Shockoe Bottom.
Bill Conkle, Friends of Jefferson Park
Bill, can we get some renderings posted of the current Jeff Park plans? We would expect any private developer to provide them before sending support calls or letters.
@2 go to this CHPN post of 6-30-2009: http://chpn.net/news/2009/06/30/jefferson-park-renovation-in-the-works_6616
You can read all about the public meeting with area citizens and park planners this past summer (it was heavily publicised and very well attended.) Also, you’ll see web links to the details of the plans for the hillside restoration and improvements.
IMO, this project has been thoroughly vetted by the Friends of Jefferson Park and citizens of Union Hill (who were active from the git-go and have been pushing HARD; working for this restoration ever since Trop. Strm Gaston ravaged it.)
It’s take a lot of time and perserverance to get this far, all we need to do now is support it with CAR.
Help us get our park hillside stabalized and improved so we can once again safely walk from the hill to the bottom via Jefferson Park.
FYI, a long time ago, there was a staircase that led from the top of the park to Marshall @ Cedar, that’s gonna come back with this plan.
Thanks Elaine for posting the link. I hope the neighbors and park users will support this project by contacting CAR.
