Fire on 22nd Street
03/02/2010 6:44 AM by John M
A fire was reported at 415 North 22nd Street just before 6AM this morning. Everyone made it out ok.
Wow- there are probably 10 emergency vehicles & a news van still around Jefferson @ 22nd. Hope everyone is ok.
Glad everyone made it out. Does anyone know the couple? Not sure what was lost but have items I can donate!
WOW, I knew I heard a TON of sirens this morning while sleeping. I thought something must have been going on. I thought it was a traffic accident. A house fire is much more terrible.
My husband and I live on the corner of 22nd & Marshall and we were woken up at around 6:30 by a neighbor calling to see if we were okay. I guess the white noise in our room really works to drown out the street noise because we never heard a thing! We looked out our windows to find our house surrounded by fire & police and the duplex across the street smoking (the fire had already been put out). The duplex is a rental. The one side where the fire started is occupied by a married couple. I believe the husband’s name is Ishmael. The other side is occupied by 2 police men and their dogs. One of them showed my husband through their side where the roof had caved into their upstairs bathroom. Apparently the fire started on one side of the duplex and spread up to the attic catching the roof on fire, but we don’t know the cause. All the occupants have had to evacuate and I assume are now homeless. The policemen appear to have been helped by their friends, but in all the rush, I didn’t see the other couple. We had to go to work and didn’t get a chance to ask if anyone needed anything, so if anyone finds out, please let us know.
Correction to the above comment! We live on the corner of Jefferson & 22nd…I’m doing too many things at once right now…sorry
