Homicide investigation at Oakwood Cemetery
04/01/2010 12:01 PM by John M
NBC12 is reporting that “Richmond Police are investigating a homicide in Oakwood Cemetery in Richmond’s East End.”
We live a block away from the cemetery and no shots were heard by the neighbors that I’ve talked to. May have just been dumped.
There goes the neighborhood!
The Richmond Police Department has identified the man found shot to death this morning in the Oakwood Cemetery as Tyree Jerard Jefferson Jr., 39, of the 400 block of East Brookland Park Boulevard.
Officers received a call at 9:50 a.m. for a report of a person down in the cemetery, 3001 Nine Mile Road. When they arrived, they found Jefferson dead at the scene.
Anyone with any information about this crime is asked to call the Richmond Police Tips Line at 514-TIPS (8477) or Crime Stoppers at 780-1000.
I don’t have any information about this murder, per se, but (also while downtown today) I ran across a long-time resident of Richmond who grew up with the victim. He says Mr. Jefferson was a bully who had been pushing people around his whole life and that someone likely just got sick of it. He agreed that the body was also likely left there. That’s just hearsay and is of little value, but I thought I’d pass it along just the same.
From this morning’s RTD:
