Funds are to build more plots for waiting families, 2 children’s beds for local groups, and finish the fence.
JenniferD #1, the funds are to (among the other things you listed) “finish the fence.” Assuming this means the fence at the community garden at 31st and East Grace Sts, does this mean the funds raised will be in addition to the $2700 recently requested from the Church Hill Association for a fence, which request was held over for a vote until July? Or is Tricycle Gardens withdrawing that request, and attempting to raise the money for the fence in other ways, such as this fund raiser?
If the funding request from the Church Hill Association is not being withdrawn, how has the fence become more expensive and needing even more funds? I’d appreciate any info you can add, thanks.
Also, if you have 28 plots and more people waiting to have plots, why not just ask them all to pony up for the fence? Sounds like it would be less than $100 each if the fence does cost $2700. Just curious on that point, as I’ve not heard it explained previously, thanks.
CRD, The Chimborazo Community Garden/Tricycle Gardens is not withdrawing the request to the CHA. As there is no guarantee that the CHA will approve our request, we are moving forward with alternate funding sources. If the CHA does indeed decide to support the completion of the garden, we can just reduce the amount we have requested.
As far as the people who currently have plots-most have contributed above and beyond the $50 annual fee to get the garden where it is today (in time and $). There are small maintenance/supply needs which the plot fees go towards.
The request was for the fence, AND building 10 more beds, not just the fence.
If you would like some more details, give me a ring at the office 231-7767.
Thanks for the suggestions-maybe you can join us at one of the garden events/meetings and offer your suggestions to the group! The more ideas/hands/involvement -the better! We welcome all to be involved as they are able.
Dear neighbors:
It is quite distressing to read all of the nonsense written on the closed post and here, regarding Tricycle Gardens and the people who choose to pursue growing their own vegetables. We are more than grateful to all those who have worked so diligently to turn a small corner of our neighborhood into a usable garden. We are also grateful to the Friends of Chimbo for their work. And NO we do not have a garden plot, nor do we have children who use the playground; however, we can see the great value that these entities provide for our neighbors, our neighbors children, and our grandchildren.
Since these two organizations started their projects we have seen a renewed use and sense of purpose for Chimborazo Playground. We see petanque, skateboarding, basketball, tennis, street hockey, fencing, gardening, wiffle ball and other numerous groups of people playing together, sharing the same space AND getting along. WOW Imagine that folks…IT IS WONDERFUL….
Maybe more of you could complain less and contribute more…Just what is the purpose of CHA anyway? Is this not a neighborhood organization?
Maybe you should come to the CHA meeting tomarrow to find out what the purpose of
CHA.
Unfortunately I am out of town more than not and never seem to make the CHA meetings, which is why I stopped attending in the first place. Secondly, it seemed that there was as much infighting within the CHA organization as I read here in the Church HIll neighborhood. I prefer to think positive and behave positive rather than tearing everyone down for their efforts. Let’s work together not against each other….thanks for listening…
#4 + 6.
Amen.
I am a little slow….
So if I disagree with spending habits of CHA then I am a negative person and tearing down what others are doing?
I attend because of past issues I don’t agree with and feel a voice needs to be heard… we are not sheep in Church Hill.
