Have you seen Bebe?
06/01/2010 11:22 AM by John M
Contact Melanie at melkielb@yahoo.com or (804)786-8812 if you’ve seen Bebe:
My sister was enroute from NYC to West Palm Beach last Wed., May 26. She stopped here in Richmond to stay overnight with me (2714 E. Franklin St.). In moving her cat carrier into my house, her cat, Bebe (boy), got out and ran next door and we could not capture him. I’ve been looking for him ever since but can’t find him. He is black all over and has a clipped ear to indicate that he’s been neutered.
I think I saw him, about 6:15 tonight, trotting down the 2500 block of East Grace St. I rolled down the car window and said ‘meerooous’ and he looked at me, then he got to the corner at 25th and looked freaked out at the cars (as well he should). When I pulled over, he’d disappeared. I’ve left Melanie a voice mail but the phone number is an office number, plus I’ve sent an email.
Melanie, would help to know if he comes when called, and how his name is pronounced (Baybay or Beebee), as well as another way to call you during the evening, thanks. I have a cat carrier, so if I see him again and can entice him, I’ll try to crate him for you. No guarantee, but willing to help.
I’ve spoken to Melanie and she’s going to go look for him in the area where I think I saw him. His name is pronounced Beebee. Hope to have a good conclusion….
Thanks for the tip and offer to help. Bebe is pronounced “bee bee.” I just went and looked for him but no luck. If you see him again, my number at home (evenings) is 644-1081, or at work — regular work hours — is 786-8812.
A couple of days ago I saw a black cat around the corner of 26th and Franklin. I saw one trotting down 26th street towards Grace around 6pm. A little bit before crd must have seen it.
My sons and I just searched Patrick Henry Park across from the fire station and around that block. No luck. Yet. Please be on the look out for Bebe. thank you for any help you can provide.
Awww…. Bebe is quite the handsome lad… will be on the lookout…
Church Hill Animal Hospital is a good place to check, in case he shows up there.
I have alerted someone who lives in the 2500 block of East Grace St., she will also look around today. If she finds him, she’ll keep him inside until she can get in touch with Melanie, and I will do same. He’s somewhere around here, I’m fairly sure, since we’ve all seen him.
If anyone else sees him and can catch him, a pillow case works as well as a carrier for a temp. way to hold him until you can take him inside (or to the Church Hill vet for holding).
Dr. Jack at Church Hill animal hospital may also loan you a trap, although if he’s already been ear-tipped he may not go in? And you may catch unintended cats instead.
Hi. I’m home until 1 p.m. today(Wed., 6/2) if anyone sees Bebe. My phone is 644-1081 or my cell is 402-8093. Thank you all for your help!
Saw Bebe at 6:45am this morning on the 2500 block of Franklin. I was just finishing up my run and saw him on the sidewalk. I tried to approach him, but he ran and hid under a car. I would look under the cars between 25th and Franklin up to 26th and Franklin. The car he was hiding in was on the right side of the road heading up the hill.
Thank you the people of Churhill. Bebe is super fast…I think he would need to be lured with wet food. He’s a street cat at heart but was fed since he was kitten by my neighbors and myself. Please keep a lookout!!! I can’t thank everyone enough!! Michelle (Bebe’s Mum)
Michelle and Melanie, he’s hanging out in the 2500 block of Franklin now, and last night in the 2500 block of Grace. I think he’s not going to cross 25th St. as when I saw him last night, he really came to a halt when he saw the big cars that race up and down the hill. Good luck today – and if he hasn’t been caught when I go home at 4 p.m. I’ll try to help catch him.
I just searched for Bebe all around the 2500 block bounded by Grace and Franklin & did not see him. I put out cat food in the alley there.
Melanie, I just talked to yet another person who has seen him in the last few days, guy who does a LOT of walking around the entire neighborhood. Says he saw him on Franklin, not sure which block, tried to befriend but at the last minute Bebe ran under a parked car. The guy’s other comment was wise (he’s had cats), he said Bebe is probably taking shelter during the heat of the day, that’s why I’ve seen him in the evening and someone else today at 6:45 a.m.
Might be best to search for him early early morning and then in the evening, when it’s cooling down. I will try again a little later. Looked around 4:30 p.m. and saw no sign, but it was hot out.
We’re still on the lookout, hopefully one of us will be able to catch him soon.
Update on Bebe: Chris called me tonight around 7 and said he had just seen Bebe go between 2600 and 2602 E. Franklin & so I immediately looked for him there. No Bebe sighting but left food for him. Also met up with Celeste who was driving around looking for Bebe. Received call from Beth Hutchins who thinks she may have seen Bebe & will attempt to catch him. Thanks Chris, Celeste and Beth!
I will try harder to catch him if I see him after my run tomorrow morning.
thanks, James. Bebe is really scared/disoriented right now so don’t worry if you don’t catch him. Mainly I want to make sure he gets some nourishment so if you do spot him, pls. call me 402-8093 and I’ll run to where you are with some cat food/water. thx. again!
Melanie, please check your email, I just sent you a short note. I’ve alerted some folks on 26th Street so they know to look for him, too, as well as to check here for updates.
Great news — I was just looking out the front window and saw Bebe in the front yard. I called his name & took him some food & water. He ran away at first but about five minutes after I returned inside the house, he came back to eat it. Yea and Bebe looks like he’s in decent shape, too!! Hopefully, now that he’s been fed, he’ll stick around & I can gain his trust and eventually get him into a carrier so my sister can come back up here from WPB and take him to his new home. Thanks for everyone’s help!!
I love a happy ending.
Melanie, I am so glad that he’s at least found your yard, that is great news! Absolute best of luck with getting him to come inside, before you break out the carrier. Meanwhile maybe Blue will give him some pointers about staying close to your house!
While driving down Broad going east I thought I saw a dead black cat near 25th street. I hope I’m wrong. When I returned at 1:40 I tried to spot it again but didn’t see it. There were more parked cars then there had been or maybe someone picked it up. Hope it was not what I thought it was and BeBe will come back.
#22, I live near there and have thoroughly checked, seen absolutely no evidence.
Bebe was spotted last night on Franklin next door to where he escaped from his crate..he was eating food left for him by Melanie’s neighbor..so thank goodness he’s making a routine! Thanks!! Bebe’s mum.
