End End Transformation looking good on paper
The folks at Duany Plater-Zyberk shared some of their process and what they’ve been hearing tonight as the East End Transformation process moved to the Family Resource Center on Jefferson Avenue for the Studio Open House.
TOP: Ideas for the intersection of 25th Street, Nine Mile, and Fairmount Avenue
By all accounts, public participation has been incredibly high for each of the sessions so far (and Mrs.Thompson has apparently been ubiquitous&inspirational :).
There are tons of maps of the area and photos of buildings and streetscapes. Some show distance relationships, others emphasize transportation or infrastructure.
The folks from DPZ are set up at workspaces at both ends of the Family Resource Center.
Ideas of how to handle the oddly shaped lots along Nine Mile Road.
A drawing of the intersection described as “the heart of the community”.
Circles with a 1/4 mile radius; can be walked edge-to-edge in 5 minutes.
What is and what could be.
There are 3 public sessions remaining:
- FrIday, June 4 – Philanthropy and Foundations meeting 10–11AM @FRC?
- Saturday, June 5 – Public Pin-up and Youth Charrette 11AM–1PM @FRC
- Monday, June 7 – Closing Presentation – 5–6:30PM Robinson Theatre
Thanks for posting these pics & summary!
Stuff should be popping up later on the EEVRIC blog, too.
Great job, John. I’ve been video interviewing folks all week, and I agree with your assessment of the charrette and it’s great level of participation by citizens.
A note to folks who will be attending the closing presentation on Monday evening at the Robinson Theatre: we will be there interviewing folks (on camera) for a short documentary we are producing about the public discussion that’s going on now about the East End.
If you would like to be interviewed following the presentation, and give your thoughts to what the DPZ planners have envisioned for 25th St/Nine Mile, please feel free to contact me: elaine@churchhillphoto.com.
Otherwise, simply linger outside at the Robinson on Monday night following the presentation and we’ll interview to you then. Thanks!
NO NBO NO NO NO! Looks like I need to drop a load of papers off there tomorrow!
Wow! Another non-happening project proposal!
I’m encouraged to see a roundabout proposed for the intersection of Nine Mile and N. 25th in some of the drawings, especially the top left corner of the first picture. I’d love to see a traffic circle with a park and fountain there similar to Dupont Circle in Washington, D.C. It could also function as a pedestrian plaza/public square, which Elizabeth Plater Zyberk mentioned we really don’t have in our neighborhood at the moment.
