Free repair program offered to Peter Paul homeowners
Councilwoman Cynthia I. Newbille invites homeowners in the Peter Paul neighborhood to attend a meeting to learn about applying for a free home repair program provided by Rebuilding Together of Richmond. The meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 8, 2010, from 7-8PM at the Peter Paul Development Center (1708 North 22nd Street).
Applications are available now for repair event being held on April 30, 2011. The application deadline is November 1, 2010.
Examples of repairs include painting; weather-proofing; repairs to heating, plumbing and electrical systems; roofing; insulating; appliance repair/replacement; installing/repairing handrails; carpentry; windows; porch repairs; improved lighting; removal of trip and fall hazards; general repairs; drainage improvements; and, yard work.
Those who would be eligible for the program include:
- Own their home in the Peter Paul Neighborhood of Richmond
- Are 55 years of age or older or have disabilities
- Have a household income of less than $25,000

I am a menber of the local electricians union. IBEW local 666.
One of our members coordinates the electrical work each year. I have worked with him 2 years now. We had something like 25 electricians help this year. Lots of really good work gets done for these folks. It is a great program.
