The Patrick Henry Committee invites you to bring your friends and family to a reenactment of the Second Virginia Convention of March 1775. In the presence of Washington, Jefferson, and other notable Virginians, Patrick Henry delivered his passionate call for liberty, uttering the immortal words, “Give me liberty or give me death!” These events are free and open to the public. Adopt-a-tree deadline

The city’s Adopt-a-Tree Program applications (PDF) has a new deadline of of September 1. From the Department of Urban Forestry website:
Residents may participate in the Adopt-A-Tree Program by making a tax-deductible contribution to the Parks & Recreation Foundation which will go toward planting a new tree or trees. Additionally, participants agree to water the tree for the first two years as outlined in the Tree Maintenance Agreement. Applications for the Adopt-A-Tree are due by [September 1]. Trees are planted late November through the end of February. For additional information please refer to Frequently Asked Questions and the Approved Tree Planting List.

Adult Computer Class

New Visions Civic Association Special Meeting

Councilperson Newbille and Juanita Buster are requesting all of the civic league members and residents to have a dialogue on the draft of the East End Transformation plan that came out of the charrette. All new information, suggestions, changes, etc. are due to the above persons by the first part of September with hope of bringing some closure to the draft format by the end of September. Come prepared to give your input.
