Didn’t someone come forward with an application for a certificate of appropriateness on this building late last year? I thought a pizza place was being tossed around as a business idea for this building? Could be wrong though.
I’d love to see it renovated, it’s got an interesting aesthetic that is worth preserving.
I like David Roheer’s painting. Exhibit ongoing at the Schindler Gallery.
I live right around the corner. This place is an eyesore. Would love to see it become a specialty corner store. So much good is happening around this area of Church Hill. Someone please get together and make something positive happen.

The Gourmet Pizza place is allegedly opening at 29th & Broad St.
From what I’ve heard, it was the original intended site for Lamplighter Coffee (now situated south of Cary St. in the Fan).
Yep, original intended site for the Lamplighter. Once it became clear that satisfying the building requirements in an O&H district had the potential of being a real burden for a burgeoning small business, they set up shop in the free zone known as the Fan

#9, no that is not why we cant get anything to open up here… the owner of that building is a contractor who is capable of fixing it up. The O&H building requirements are basically, fix it up, dont tear it down, any major alterations must have approval (which is provided in a timely manner and are very flexible) Look at what has been/is being built around the neighborhood. The lack of patronage is why nothing stays up here…
wow # 10 that is a very disingenous way to paint the CITY O&H requirements. jimjam take a look at em ( theyre available online) and make your own decision. if you think presenting twelve copies of proposed plans and putting it on electronic disk is reasonable in a neighborhood with an avg. income of 15,000 dollars,well,congratulations.thats why a whole lot of people were against the O&H city requirements. they add a layer of bureaucracy to an already difficult process. like i said take a look at it and make your own INFORMED decision.
the regulations actually say if you want to change a light fixture or a mail box you must seek approval albeit in an expedited process. yeah go get pictures of the fixtures as well as other possibilities and the city will let you know what they think is right!that sounds like a really user friendly system! especially if you dont have a computer,a car or a fax machine as is often the case with the elderly and or less well off. oh well huh?
