Can you see the parade on the river from Libby Hill Park?
Cordieb, #1 – you CAN see it from the park, but only sort of. You can see them coming from the east, but they’re sort of far away then, and by the time they get closer, they are ready to turn around and head back east.
You get a better view when you get down near the water, just in my experience. I’ve seen it down on the water once or twice and tried to see it from the park once and was disappointed from the park view. But it might depend on where the boats turn around and head back east, as to how much you can see from the park – the one time I was in the park, they turned around at a point that was blocked by buildings so I didn’t get the full effect. Me, I’d want to be down closer to the water to see it full on but that’s my opinion. I’ll be curious to read what others post!
I agree, it is tough to get a perfect view of the boats from Libby Hill Park, but the event it a great time and the neighborhood supports it well. I’ve loved both times I’ve been to Libby Hill for the parade.
The James River Outdoor Coalition will be supplying hot chocolate, apple cider and more, so please bring a couple of dollars to donate back to their cause!
