Murder 2010 (UPDATED)
12/30/2010 11:47 AM by John M
There have been 13 14 homicides in the East End (including 3 in the first 2 days of April) and 40 41 in Richmond in 2010. This is up 4 and 1 5 and 2, respectively, over 2009. The last time that the East End had this many homicides was 2007, when Richmond saw 55 killings. In 1993, the East End alone saw 41 killings. Want more historical perspective?
TAGGED: crime
Bump each of those numbers up 1, one of yesterdays shooting victims has died.

So does that mean 2010 has beat 2007? Sort of unfortunate that our homicide count is going up again, but I sort of expected it with the long hot summer.
Since the city’s population went up per the last census, the per capita homicide rate is still lower, right?
The Richmond region saw a 19% jump in killings last year:
Richmond went from 39 to 41, a 5% increase. The East End went from 9 to 14, a 55% jump.
