An attempt to draw police attention

Through @unionhillrva, neighbors anonymously post sightings of alleged drug dealers and buyers. Serious but not without levity — posters refer to the Hamsterdam of “The Wire” and opine on buyers’ fashion choices — the account is an attempt to draw police attention. A growing number of law enforcement agencies are using social media to inform residents and elicit tips, but this appears to be Richmond’s first neighborhood-originated anti-crime campaign on social media.
Good use of Twitter!
Good idea. Is it actually making a difference or does the first precinct ignore the feeds?
Awesome!!
Sector 111 Lieutenant James Laino praised the efforts of the twitter campaign at last night’s Union Hill Civic Association meeting, but also reminded members that phone calls to the non-emergency line are helpful in establishing a record of criminal activity in a particular area.
Lt. Laino also announced that he will be moving into an administrative position at the First Precinct and that a female sector lieutenant with 15 years of experience has been named to take his place.
how much of this is more opportunity to racebait and how much is community activism? opine on peoples wardrobe? more opportunity to mask hateful opinions under the guise of fighting crime. if you losers want to fight crime howzabout doing something harder than indulging your closely concealed venom. i have had my differences with elaine o dell but at least she had the ballls to confront what she thought was crime in person. you anonymous pukes are sure civic minded cowards. but whats new?
Buddy, are you saying people should personally engage suspected criminals? I knew you were less than intelligent, but that statement is completely asinine. This is what the police want. What they don’t want is idiots like you trying to be vigilantes.
Buddy, why is it that every single one of your posts sounds like you are itching to start a fist fight with your neighbors? This is one situation where I think the anonynimity is warranted given how these folks may face repurcussions from alerting the police. Are you saying there isn’t a drug problem there? If so, why not approach the discussion that way?
Alex, he is a bouncer. Violence is his life. Some people never grow up and mature beyond solving all their problems physically. I just wish less people had that mindset in the Richmond area, as there would be a significant reduction in violent crime.
@8- You work at a chemical company…so what gives?
I recently read an interview between Bill Moyers and David Simon, the creator of “The Wire” tv show. This conversation reminds me of it. It’s a really good article and definitely worth reading: http://www.guernicamag.com/interviews/2530/simon_4_1_11/
Buddy always cracks me up.
And you buy my chemicals, so what is your point?
