Chief’s Walk in Union Hill on Monday
From Lt. Laino at First Precinct:
“I wanted to invite you and/or make you aware of the upcoming Chief’s Walk in the Union Hill Neighborhood. The walk will be held on Monday 5-9-11 at 5:00pm and should last about 1 and a half hours. The Chief’s Walks are held quarterly in different locations across the City. It is an opportunity for the Command Staff to walk the neighborhood and speak to residents about issues in their neighborhood.”
Please plan to participate in this walk as the City’s chief law enforcement officer listens and responds to our public safety concerns. This is an incredible opportunity for our neighborhood and a sign that RPD is taking seriously our longstanding issues along 24th Street from Jefferson to Venable. The Chief’s walk will begin at the intersection of 24th and O Streets at 5 pm.

Mark Holmberg here, CBS-6. Working on this story for tonight. Anyone have any thoughts.
Been to the neighborhood. Seen the dealing. I believe it’s moved a few blocks down, closer to police station.

I’m on the outskirts of Union Hill but still part of the neighborhood. I saw them out and about, but they didn’t come up 25th and when I drove around, I just saw groups of cops standing around and no citizens.
Hopefully some people talked to them.
I just saw the announcement on Monday, and got off early (at 5 and work few min from home) to attend. I know a lot of people w/ various types of work hours, but 5?
If we do another, at least it could begin between 5:30-6:30. This would give more people time to get home, and join us. (those with evening jobs would most likely not be free at 5 because their workday would have already begun!)
I rushed there to see where we’d be going. I’d also like to help organize another event. Another walk in a nearby area was very good and educational to people not living on the streets we walked.
I also walked w/ two different groups, because the first one did not go very fall at all. (guessing we were supposed to all share the information with each other)
However, if we’re going to do short trips, at least we could re-convene at the end of walk and share what we discussed. Is this going to be discussed at the next civic meeting?
