Morrissey to take on Marsh?
05/26/2011 9:03 AM by John M
The Richmond Free Press is reporting that “Henrico Delegate Joseph D. “Joe” Morrissey, D-74th, is considering challenging the veteran Richmond senator in a Democratic Party primary, set for Aug. 23″ for the 16th Senate District seat held by Marsh for 2 decades.
Preston Brown announced earlier that he will be seeking the seat in the general election in the fall as an independent candidate.
I got polled the other night by I think Morrisey’s people about this race. Lot of nasty statements about Marsh and even a couple of negative ones about Morrisey.
Anyone else get called?
While I’m not the biggest fan of Morrisey, I would stronly consider voting for him simply to get Marsh out. I really don’t feel like Marsh has done anything that betters my quality of life at all! He needs to go IMHO!
I’m a conservative and I’ll be showing up to vote for Morrisey if they hold a primary. Better to have an active representative with whom I disagree on some issues than someone who sleeps through committee meetings, sought to defeat renovation of East End schools, and clings to power based on keeping other people down. It’s time for a CHANGE.
Morrisey has had his share of strange headlines but he’s a bright guy and well-suited to taking on Marsh. He’s got my vote if he runs.
Morrisey got my vote !!!!!
#5, the primary hasn’t happened yet so I hope you mean he WILL GET your vote!
This might be an interesting primary. Marsh has tremendous power, and knows how to get the older African-American voters out, but Morrisey might be able to pull it off. I’ve seen the way Morrisey runs, dating back to his election as commonwealth’s attorney.
I’m a bit conflicted, since I really can’t stand Morrisey, but have to agree with those who say he might listen and get things done, and one of those things might be to beat the Marsh Machine.
I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I would vote for Morrisey to rid of us Marsh.
I see Marsh in Tobacco Row all the time. The man is totally out of it.
#7, I am in complete agreement, can’t believe I will vote for Morrisey either. And what is Marsh doing in Tobacco Row? He nearly ran into me with his car the other day, I’m not sure he should be driving, that was the second time I’d seen him driving like he was lost.
Today I got a recorded call from Marsh, plus a fancy full color mailer from him. All this before Morrisey has even announced!
My assumption is Marsh lives there.
I see him getting out of his car on 25th Street between Main and Cary on more than just chance occasions.
really??
This is who you want representing your best interests…

Please, think before voting.

Link to article in Times Dispatch, Marsh was found in contempt of federal court and fined $500.
#10, I know, Morrisey is anything but clean. However, he’s apparently already got Marsh worried, and I for one am tired of living in the east end under the politics of The Marsh Machine. At least Morrisey has it in him to win over Marsh.
It’s Morrissey not Morrisey!!!
Thanks #12 for the correction. There is an article in the Times Dispatch that links to this article:

Basically saying he hasn’t made up his mind yet. “Despite Marsh’s decades in office and therefore predictably high name ID (82 percent), his re-elect fails to break the majority threshold as just 46 percent of voters say that he deserves to be re-elected; dangerous territory indeed for any long-term incumbent.”
Joe Morrissey will work to better the district. He will be in the community promoting safer streets, better schools, community togetherness, cleaner neighborhoods, opportunities for jobs, business growth, opportunities for children to get a better education and scholarships through fundraisers.
Henry Marsh had his time in the Senate. He deserves our respect and admiration, but it is time to have a energetic and enthusiatic representative for our district.
Too bad none no one felt the same about Bobby Scott.
I’m no big fan of Marsh either. But Morrissey can’t even get his law license back because of all the illegal, un-ethical, and god knows what else, things he’s done over his career.
In last month’s reinstatement hearing after all the testimony and deliberating was done, one of the board members simply stated “Mr. Morrissey is incapable of telling the truth.”
I can’t vote for Morrissey, either. Isn’t there an intelligent, honest person willing to run for this office? Or, is it a prerequisite that the candidate has to crooked?
vote pt!!!
