Seeking witnesses to scooter accident on Broad Street
My boyfriend was in an accident at the intersection of Broad Street and 18th St. (the McDonald’s/Exxon) on May 2nd. The woman involved was driving a newer, dark colored minivan, and was probably in her 30’s. She was stopped in the middle of turning left on 18th heading towards Church Hill, on a yield on green and didn’t see him coming on our scooter.
He has just had his second surgery on his wrist, and needs one more. He’s out of work for at least 6 months because of this, and there’s a chance we’ll even lose our house if we don’t find who she is. Because the information is SO important…we’ve scraped together a reward, and are more than willing to give more if he gets a settlement out of it. PLEASE!!! If ANYONE saw or knows her, we’re not angry, we just need her insurance information.
He’s got major pain, will never get back to 100% use of his hand, and the accident has produced substantial medical bills. We’re at a loss, we don’t know what to do, any help would be more than appreciated. We have 3 kids at home, and I’m having to work extra shifts and am looking for a second job just to keep our rental house in Church Hill…..
Thanks.

So sorry this happened. Was your scooter covered by rental insurance? I know it’s a stretch, but I do know someone who got coverage from their own insurance company that way when they were hit-and-run by a car while on their bike. Because their bike was covered under a policy, their lawyer was able to finagle insurance $$$.
Also, have you driven through the neighborhood looking for potential vans?
Hi Shannon. Talk to these folks. They may be able to help your boyfriend with his medical needs. Good luck!

I am so sorry to hear about what happened. So the woman didn’t even stop after she hit him?!?! How can anyone do that.
My husband rides a scooter too and this just makes me sick to my stomach. I wish I HAD witnessed the accident so we would have chased her down! Like someone said above, maybe ride through the neighborhood to see if you see the car any where.
Best of luck to you and your family!
You said she stopped in the middle of turning – so did your boyfriend hit her in the back? Just wondering because if so, maybe she did not know he hit her and she will come forward on her own. Maybe wishful thinking.
I hate to say it, but if this were a true hit and run, it’s very likely that the driver of that van didn’t have any car insurance. Also unlikely that person has any assets to go after if he/she hasn’t bothered to acquire insurance.
Shannon, I’m a reporter and would love to help you out. Please feel free to email me at dcopley@wric.com
The careless and illegal actions of the van driver bring shame to the McDonald/Exxon community. I will ask my network of “Please Help” sign holders at the Exxon to hunt down this woman and perform lynch mob justice.
I didn’t witness the accident, but I saw the police arrive on scene a shortly afterward. Couldn’t the officers or the PD help in this situation? Did no one get a ticket?
