Just letting the neighborhood know… some guy just dropped by our house asking for cash b/c he ran out of gas on 25th (we live on 21st). Young white guy in his mid-twenties, smelled like weed, crew cut, wearing a brown t-shirt and jeans, coming from Cedar Street direction… very shady. Our dogs didn’t deter his efforts either. Please let the neighborhood know. I believe he is profiling houses.
Ha, or he just ran out of gas.
Run out of gas, sure. But why was he driving around without a wallet? People ask me for money for gas or bus fare all the time at the Exxon. I guess the trend is spreading up the hill.
Doubt that he was casing your house that takes time and effort that most don’t bother with. This guy wanted to get a few dollars from you and moves on to the next house.
They had this in the Suburbs of Orlando all the time and had one guy a locak Radio Talk show guy call “the Black Chef” because he would be in full Chef’d clothes doing his deal.
God I hate the Exxon at the bottom of the hill. I made the mistake of going inside one day. Rookie move. I wish the BP up the Hill had diesel. Actually, its kind of funny. No one seems to ask me for anything when I get fuel at the diesel pump, but if I fill up the wife’s car on the other side, there’s always someone asking for bus fare.
People come by my house asking for money all the time. They have for years. Most of the stories are made up, but some of them aren’t. There are some regulars and there are some one timers. Welcome to living in an economically diverse area, esp during rough economic times. I think it’s silly to worry that every lower class person who comes to your door is profiling houses and looking to rob you, that will just leave you living in fear all the time.
If you’re in a position to buy someone what they’re asking you for money to buy, or to give it to them, you should try it. It helps people who are genuinely in need, and exposes people who aren’t being truthful.
