Childcare in the area?
06/29/2011 8:08 AM by John M
We are expecting our first baby in November. We are looking to hear about options that others have used in regards to childcare. We are inteterested in all options (in home, nanny share, and daycare). We would prefer a smaller, higher staff to child ratio, but of course money is a primary concern as well.
TAGGED: question
We too are expecting our first baby in November. Any ongoing information about childcare in the neighborhood that could be shared would be awesome!!!
Thanks for posting…
Do NOT take your child to 2nd Presbyterian day care. Understaffed, nothing to tumble on, some staff members very inappropriate to children.
Congrats to all the expecting families! I am more convinced everyday that Church Hill is a great place to raise a family. My wife and I welcomed our son Johnnie into the world almost two years ago- and the stress, joy, fear, and joy ensued! We looked for several months and happily decided on Nadine Abney 908-0390 (in home care) on 25th Street. She has become a part of our family and as with all the children in her care calls them ‘her children’ for the day. She would do anything for our son and all the children in her care. I would strongly recommend her to any family looking for that special person to care for their children- our neighborhoods most valuable asset.
We had a wonderful nanny for our twin boys’ first year – Linda Davis tel. 909-3256
She is super dependable, trustworthy and the best with babies.
P.S. LInda lives in the neighborhood and is looking for a new Church Hill family.
John…Nadine is my neighbor and just who I was going to recommend. She is wonderful.
When your child is older, I highly recommend Central Montessori School on 21 st. All three of my children will attend next year. They can start at 18m and goes to age 9. This place is amazing and I can’t even begin to day enough.
In reference to the comment about 2nd Presbyterian Child Care Center, we’ve had our daughter there since the day she turned 16 months and we couldn’t be happier with them . We searched everywhere – in home, centers, nannies, etc – nothing compared to what they had to offer. The price, the care and concern they take with our little girl, the curriculum, the hours, etc in our opinion (an RN and a former Richmond City CPS worker) is all a plus. We’ve never seen a staff member there be anything but loving to the children. There have always been more than adequate staff to supervise the children, and as far as things to “tumble” on, that’s slightly non-specific. Did you miss the entire front room that is a practical sponge-covered floor complete with tumbling equipment? That’s just my 2 cents anyhow.
If anyone is looking for night/weekend childcare, I have been babysitting/nannying for over 17 years. I live on Marshall Street, have excellent local references, and a spotless driving record. I love to play games, read stories, go for walks or the playground, and engage children in creative activities. I’m college educated, work Mon-Fri 9-5 in a professional position, and love kids (but don’t have any of my own). Feel free to call or email me if you’d like to learn more. We have been working with a “manny” Mark Van Atter, who lives here in the neighborhood. He has been watching my 2 year old daughter, her cousin and a neighbor across the street several days a week. He is very good with the children and very accommodating with our various schedules. He plays games with them and walks them to the park in the wagon when the weather is nice. I would highly recommend him. He can be reached at 804-727-7506.
Does anyone know of any good part-time daycare options for infants in CH or the Fan? I’m going to need care for my baby beginning in January, but only two days a week. None of the places, I’ve contacted do PT for babies.
I would check with Nadine (mentioned above and listed with a phone number.) She is amazing!
I tried Nadine and she’s got two babies already starting in January. Does anyone have any other suggestions? I need something on Tuesday/Thursdays only and would be glad to consider a nanny share.
