Apparently, my favorite building on Venable Street was also on fire last night: http://www2.timesdispatch.com/news/news/2011/aug/19/cause-richmond-house-fire-under-investigation-ar-1248970/
I can’t help but feel disappointed in the property owner’s lack of care for this building. Based on rumors I’ve heard from some fairly good sources, the owner has been approached numerous times from interested buyers who’d like to do something with the building, but the owner has declined all offers. If this is true, shame on them.
mags you were at the sameparty i was with all the local movers and shakers. there was a very interested local politician who approached me about helping him buy melvins property as he knew of our friendship. in the middle of his pitch he went off on a tangent about all the “criminals “at the church hill house at venable and 25th st. according to this concerned citizen this assisted low income facility was a hotbed of illegal activity and when those people got theitr govt. checks on the first it was a brouhaha! a young guy with all the enlightened attitude of a strom thurmond was saying this shit with a straight face! now if somebody offered that church an opportunity to form a partnership and renovate the property thats one thing. unfortunately the attitude seems to be “take this pittance and move out of the way bwah,i got mountains to move and people to see”. maybe we need less talk about this neighborhoods historically integrated past and more doing about our integrated future! magneto i know you love that building. so do i . it could anchor venables rebirth. but swwatting at the church by calling in a million code complaints isnt only sneaky…….its cowardly and demeaning to everyone involved. try talking to your neighbors instead of assuming their JUST part of the problem.oh and facebook me man. we can discuss things without some little punk distracting me with personal insults like a rodeo clown pissing off a bull!
and magneto i wqasnt talking about you and the complaints. the constant assumption of my kneejerkin would be one of the reasons i have sadly quit daily commentary on our mutual neighborhood resource here. john has turned over his blog to the mystery men and women who hide their nastiness behind pseudonyms so as not to alert their neighbors to the truth behind their facades. why dou think its now mostly inhabited by the same group of selfsatified haters? again that doesnt tarnish the blog .it just ensures that only one very snarky little clique is posting. impotent ,mean and cowardly. now somebody go call a city dept and make a complaint . oh and after talking to code myself i can tell you. they think neighborhood busybodies are pathetic too. especially the transparently racist ones hiding behind their deep concern for the neighborhood.
