Hogtober the 1st a rousing success

By all accounts, the 2011 Hogtober was a hit. Perfect weather, too!

TAGGED: Hogtober
I thought Hogtober was a great community event. I was there from the beginning to 3:30p.m. Everyone was well behaved and having a good time. Our own Alamo was mobbed.
Welcome, Hogtober, Hill Yeah
Not bad for a first time. Would love to see more Bbq vendors next year. Lines were way too long. Some of this could have been handled by more efficient service but there’s definitely enough support for more vendors.
Other than, seemed like a success!

There was a drunk guy near our house trying to get in our cars. And I don’t mean he was trying to break in. He was so drunk he didn’t know which car was his. He eventually drove off in a BMW. I guess he didn’t kill anyone. We called the police.
We had a great time – looking forward to next year!
Where’s the recycling?
Fantastic event!
So much fun! I agree there should be more vendors next year and yes for recycling!
I was also disappointed that when we arrived around 2-2:30 the samples were all gone. Would have loved to been able to sample from all 4 vendors instead of purchasing food from just one.
Can’t wait for next year!
Did anyone get the name of that band that was playing around 3:00, I thought they where great!
We enjoyed the BBQ. We were glad that Halligan had ribs. My pics are posted to flickr.
@9 – I think that would have been the Atkinsons. They used to have a standing gig at Cafe Diem in the Fan every second Saturday of the month (not sure if this is still on) and have played Poe’s and Tobacco Company a few times as well.

They have a nice mellow sound that goes especially well with lots of beer (I mean this as a compliment).
It was a great event, my family and I had a wonderful time. Thanks to CHA (John and Aimee), Style and all of the volunteers.
Have the ballots for best bbq been counted?
Any indication on the financial side of things? Did CHA make some money, break even, lose their shirt?
Surely they must have made money judging by the size of the crowd. If this wasn’t a decent success financially, it’s got to be due to mismanagement since the crowd was very strong. Hopefully, that’s not the case and this was a win all around…
What a great day! My team was working the Historic Richmond Foundation table previewing our new book, The Church Hill Old & Historic Districts. We really enjoyed sharing our love of the neighborhood with everyone that stopped by our table. Great music, food and fantastic volunteers.
Hillcat.. good question but think they will need time to crunch the numbers.
Great event. Would love to see more festivals that showcase some of our great parks in church hill, in particular, Jefferson Park(some of the best views of the city).
Also, next hogtober, along with more bbq vendors, make sure you include Ronnie’s. Doesnt make sense to have a Hill Bbq fest without all the hill bbq restaurants represented.
Great 1st year! Look forward to next year!
