Man robbed, shot on 33rd Street
01/28/2012 12:04 AM by John M
Police Capt. Yvonne Crowder said the victim was a 25-year-old man who was stopped in the 600 block of North 33rd Street by a man wearing a mask and displaying a weapon.
Richmond Police detectives need the public’s help to find and identify a man who shot a United States Marine during a robbery last night in Church Hill.
At approximately 8 p.m. Friday, the victim was walking with his girlfriend in the 600 block of North 33rd Street when they were approached by an unknown male who displayed a gun and demanded money. After the victims complied, the male shot the victim and ran away.
The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 5’10” with a skinny build and young, possibly in his late 20s. He was last seen wearing a dark-colored hoodie with a white and black or red bandana covering the lower portion of his face. The bandana possibly had a Houndstooth print design on it.
The victim, a 25-year-old male, suffered life-threatening injuries, and is currently in critical, but stable condition. He is a reserve sergeant and was previously stationed out of Cherry Point Air Force Base and served tours of duty in Okinawa, Japan, and Iraq.
Anyone who has information about this crime is asked to call Detective Amira Sleem at (804) 646-3871 or the Department’s Tipsline at 514-TIPS (8477). Citizens can also call Crime Stoppers at 780-1000 or text Crime Stoppers at 274637, using the key word “ITip” followed by your tip. Both Crime Stoppers methods are anonymous.
Wow….prayers to the Marine and his family…hope he pulls through this OK. Also hope the police locate the thug and stone him to death.
The police need to step up patrols in those blocks. It isn’t safe to drive much less walk through that area. Feel sorry for this guy and hope they catch the thug responsible.
Does this story not make sense to anyone else? Robber supposedly gets what he wants, his face is covered, yet he still shoots anyway? Something seems fishy.
Not to mention that this happened right outside of a residence where a giant street fight just occurred about a week ago that ended up with 3 police cars, a paddy wagon, and at least one arrest.
Call me stupid, but I live close and still feel perfectly safe.
Holly – people assault or kill victims all the time in crimes after they comply completely and put up no resistance. I wouldn’t say this story sounds unusual in the least.
I hope the marine is okay
@Holly-none of the increasing crime up here makes sense. I don’t feel so safe anymore.
Well I meant “perfectly safe” as relative. Obviously I know we don’t live in Mayfield. This occurrence right after the crazy fight I witnessed involving what looked to be these people/house just made me second guess the story. It goes without saying that hopefully the truth comes out either way and the suspect is caught.
