Adopt-a-Tree deadline is September 1st

The Church Hill Planters would like to encourage residents to participate in the Richmond City Adopt-a-Tree Program. Participation requires making a modest $50 tax-deductible contribution to the EnRichmond Foundation towards planting a tree (or trees). Additionally, participants agree to water the tree for the first two years. Further details about the program and an application form can be found on the Richmond City website.
The application (PDF) deadline is September 1st for trees to be planted in the coming year. If you have questions feel free to contact Church Hill Planter, Trish Bernal at 643-2420 or trishbernal@gmail.com
For me putting the tree out front as depicted would probably be difficult, I wonder if there is any option to put a tree along my other side walk where there is no existing planter in place, or in my alley or even my own back yard (private property thought).
Apparently, the previous owners of my house wanted a shrub planted instead of a tree in the appropriate place on the sidewalk inbetween my house and my neighbor’s house. Which evolved into an overgreen scrub brush surrounded by weeds. I’d love to have a tree there, for aesthetics and to eventually cut down on the amount of direct sunlight the front of my house receives. I wonder if I would be allowed to have the shrub ripped out and a proper tree planted?
Bret – This is for city-owned property only. Contact ’em about that other sidewalk, I’ve heard of tree wells being put into place
CSR – Certainly. There is a form to fill out to get permission to remove a tree.
Before I knew I needed permission, I planted a number of trees on my in front of the vacant houses around my old house. Nobody from the city ever seemed to notice…
