Shootout on Q, man shot on Selden
08/18/2012 12:51 PM by John M
People living near [Q and 26th Streets] say a Nissan Maxima pulled up and a gunman fired five shots, before popping off at least 15 more, according to some witness accounts. […]
From right out the Rodgers’s front door you could throw a football to the back parking lot of a nearby building, which happens to be the home of The Richmond Police Department’s First Precinct.
“To come that close and shoot that many bullets behind the police precinct, something tells me they have no respect for law enforcement and they’re a little crazy,” said Mac Rodgers.
Also, “an 18-year-old man was shot in the leg early today in the 2300 block of Selden Street” in Fairfield Court just before 9AM this morning.
How is it that this guy managed to get off 15 shots that close to the station but was still not caught? C’mon RPD.
Time to demolish Fairfield and bring back Woodville.
Sounded like it was right in front of our house. I only heard the initial 5 shots and nothing more. Cops were everywhere within 2 minutes, but they were gone in about 10 seconds so its tough to catch them unless you get a license plate or someone tells the cops who they are (won’t happen).
@1 Because RPD was working a shooting at U and 20th by the pool at that same time(1 male shot) RPD cant be everywhere at once, cmon man. Oh BTW John there was a shooting at 20th and U Thursday night, must have been overshadowed in the media by northside’s homicide. Lets add the one Saturday at 1230AM in Mosby and that makes 3 for the east end in 48hours. Oh wait you will hear about the 4th very soon. Where’s that guy that said i was doing baseless speculating? Don’t get me wrong you can’t argue with the facts, the numbers are down this year but…. lets not get lulled in by low homecide rates.
From the RPD incident report:
AGGRAVATED ASSAULT (SHOOTING)
8/16/12 9:30 p.m.
1700 block of North 21st Street
A male reported he was shot by an unknown male.
and WTVR has basically no info about that “after midnight on Saturday in Mosby Court” shooting.
@3 – oh, I didn’t realize that the police department all moved as a single unit. I guess that makes it all ok.
Sorry, that was in response to #4 not #3.

….. Heres the 4th one I mentioned.
Not quite sure I get what you meant by that Alex, I guess RPD should have a unit at every corner on every street in the city? Or I know, they could all hang out in the back parking lot of the station and wait for the Q street shooter. Heres an idea, start hiring psychic cops.
Your earlier post made it sound as if their investigation into the pool shooting precluded them from doing anything else. I was just stating that I’d hope the RPD would be capable of doing more than one thing at once. Maybe not…
@Cadeho Long past time.
Hey look Fairfield makes the news again, but don’t worry not a homicide.

Alex,
I think RKM’s point is that the fact that this occurred near a precinct house really isn’t relevant. It’s not as if there is a constant significant police presence at the precinct houses; the police officers would be relatively ineffectual staying at the precinct as opposed to being out in the community, and as such, there is only a skeleton crew at the precinct, especially overnight.
Sure, it’s symbolically unfortunate that these thugs can get away with these kinds of things right next to a precinct house, but pragmatically, committing a crime next to a precinct house is really no different from committing one near any other house.
A fight, shot fired and police pursuit at 28th and P last night. After a really quiet span this month has been crazy around here again.
As I understand it a man was shot in the 1300 blk of N. 28th St. last night. He then walked to the ER at Community Hospital. And yes Bret that is correct a man was arrested in the area of 26th and P. Quite possibly the same incident. Thats 6 people shot in 5 days in the City’s East end. No homicides….
AGGRAVATED ASSAULT (SHOOTING)
8/22/12 9:37AM
1900 blk Mechanicsville Tnpk male was shot by unknown person. Injuries not life threatening.
Thats 7 in 7 days. No homicides.
I hear of another shooting in the 1300 blk of N 28th St. Anyone know anything about this?
I heard what sounded like a single gunshot, I believe Saturday, which could have easily come from that area.
To paraphrase the late Robbin Thompson, that’s Selden with “two e’s, please.”
