Home invasion in Whitcomb
The RTD is reporting a home invasion in Whitcomb last night:
Richmond police Capt. Paul Kiniry said the first home invasion occurred at 9:50 p.m. in the 2300 block of Ambrose Street in the city’s East End and involved three armed suspects _ two with handguns and one with a shotgun _ who burst through the front door of a home occupied by a man and his two juvenile children.
Kiniry said one of the suspects struck the father twice in the head. The father later refused medical attention; the children were not injured.
Kiniry said the suspects, who stole various personal property, were black males. One was 5 feet, 6 inches tall with a slim build, about 30 years old with close-trimmed facial hair and wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans and brandishing a handgun. The other suspect with a handgun was said to be about 20 years old with a medium build and wearing a pull-over mask. The third suspect, brandishing a shotgun, was described as about 27 years old, 6 feet tall with a slim build, a goatee and all black clothing.
Seems strange that these guys would choose a home in a project to break into (if I’m reading the address right). I get that (sadly) their chances of getting caught might be lower if they do in these areas but the expected return has got to be much lower.
Assuming that criminals are rational to some degree, this makes me think that there’s more to this story. Perhaps they had a reason to believe there was something particularly valuable in this one unit. Another alternative is that they may be from close by and chose this out of convenience (which makes sense since carrying a shotgun stealthily is hard to do). Otherwise, they’re both even more asshole-ish than an average criminal and pretty dumb on top of that for robbing from the poor.
