Bellevue celebrates 100th anniversary

Bellevue Elementary School is celebrating a century of rich history this year. In honor of its centennial milestone, Bellevue will be hosting a 100th birthday celebration this Saturday, January 19, from 1-4PM.

The celebration will serve as the official unveiling of a new, permanent exhibit featuring the school’s history. Other highlights will include costumed narrators of the 1900s, a dedication of the new school sign and guided tours.

Throughout the week leading up to the grand birthday celebration, students will design games and displays that will represent the 100-year history of the school. Attendees will be able to participate in these hands-on activities during the celebration.

“Our students are proud of the school’s deep roots and are excited to share Bellevue’s wonderful history with alumni and community members, alike. We are honored to be able to present the historical significance of not only this location, but the tradition of educational excellence steeped in the very structure of this building,” said Bellevue Principal Regina Farr. “Our goal is to continue to pass on Bellevue’s legacy of achievement, courage and excellence to the students who learn within these walls.”

Built in 1912, Bellevue opened as a public school for the 1913-14 season. Fondly known as the “Castle on the Hill”, Bellevue’s location is the former site of the Adams Van Lew mansion built in 1802, which was modeled to replicate the grandeur of estates found in many northern states.
