Yoga?
01/16/2013 9:50 AM by John M
Have you heard anything about yoga coming to Church Hill? I would like to start a rumor, or at least see if folks up here would support a class or two every week. Seems like there might be appropriate space somewhere — maybe the southwest corner of 27th and Marshall right between two of our food spots? — that could be made into an at least part-time yoga place. So if there are no plans yet, maybe we could show that we would support such a venture and someone wonderful will come to us. A girl can dream…
isn’t there yoga in the park on weekends? probably not this time of year but I remember seeing it on some sorta “things to do” list a while back.
I’d love to have a place to do yoga near by. I have a Y membership but I usually only go to use their equipment and can never make it to the classes.
we just signed up for a class in carrytown. I looked for something closer. So, yes!
Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes!
Richmond Balance (out of Shockoe Bottom) has a yoga class at Libby Hill on Monday evenings when it’s a bit more warm!
If there were enough people interested, I might be able to make that happen at East District Family Resource Center on Jefferson Avenue.
BTW, there is a small group fitness class that meets there 3 times a week, $50 for 10 sessions.
YAY!!!
I’ve been looking for an after-work yoga class nearby, and I would love it if it were in the neighborhood. (Did I see something recently about yoga classes at St. John’s Church?)
yes!!!
I’ve been teaching classes almost every night out of my dining room a couple blocks from Capt Buzzy’s and am looking for a space in Church Hill so I can have more than 3 people at a time. Ayana – if you need a teacher at Jefferson Ave for one or more classes – I’d love to do it!
I know it’s far but Bikram yoga is the best…
I’m interested! I’ve been looking for a yoga place closer to home
I’ve often thought that Church Hill needed its own yoga studio. I would definitely sign up for a weekly evening class of almost any style though I like Hatha the best!
absolutely yes!! and if there was any chance of hot/bikram i’d help kickstart!
I’d love a good yoga class in Church Hill!!
Hi Everyone,
I’m Deborah Woodward, a Svaroopa® yoga teacher, who was asked if I’d be interested in teaching a yoga class in Church Hill. Yes, I’m very interested!
I’d practiced hatha yoga for many years, and then after a 4-day workshop in the Svaroopa style, quit my full-time writer/editor job to become certified to teach this style. The amount of release in the poses that students experience physically, and the way in which this style enables you to access more of yourself—more calm, ease, clarity—very easily and reliably, sold me at once. That was 9 years ago, and I haven’t looked back once.
To see if this is a style of yoga that’s just right for you, I encourage you to come to the “Finding Lasting Relief for your Neck & Shoulders” workshop that I’m teaching Feb. 3.
Details below. I look forward to seeing you, and talking about next steps.
Thank you so much for the opportunity and for your consideration.
Best,
Deborah

I would be very interested in a yoga class in Church Hill. Have there been any developments yet?
I would love a yoga studio in church hill. I used to go to a studio in Pittsburgh and have been frustrated that I spend more time in my car back and forth than in class. If there was a studio, I would join in NY minute.
A lot has changed since this was posted.

And apparently there is a new studio opening in Shockoe Slip as well: http://shockoeslipyoga.com/
