Civil War & Emancipation Day 2013

This year’s Civil War & Emancipation Day provides free admission to all of the more than 25 participating sites and activity centers and offers an array of informative walking tours and presentations. Free shuttle service provided.

Civil War Sampler Bus Tour

Civil War Sampler Bus Tour / A comprehensive look at the unique role Richmond played as the Capital of the Confederacy. Gillies Creek Park clean up

Help mark the Richmond Liberty Trail

The Richmond Liberty Trail is a walking route that connects many of downtown Richmond’s historic sites, attractions and neighborhoods, including 15 national historic landmarks. This 6.2 mile (10K) trail will be marked with a logo painted on the sidewalk.
The Trail is but one of several self-guided opportunities to experience Richmond’s 400-year history on foot. In Shockoe Bottom, it connects with the Richmond Slave Trail. There is no beginning or end to the Richmond Liberty Trail. Participants are encouraged to walk portions of the route based on their interests.
Paint the Street! On April 6, 2013, volunteers will paint the 6.2 mile Richmond Liberty Trail. If you are interested in lending a hand, please register by April 4th. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.

City Council Formal Meeting

Every 2nd and 4th Mon – Responsible for deciding official Council action, which includes discussing, adopting, rejecting, and amending laws and approving the budget. Formal meetings include a time for pubic comment and are televised live on the local PBS station and are replayed in Richmond on Government Access Channel 17, beginning at Noon and 7:00 p.m. daily.

Sub Rosa benefit dinner at The Roosevelt

As you might know, we are next door neighbors with Sub Rosa. We were in shock when we heard about the fire there. We love Evrim and Evin and Sub Rosa and can’t wait to see them get back on their feet. One of our favorite regulars lived in the apartments above, and we want to help
The Roosevelt will host a benefit supper on Monday, April 8th from 5:30-8:30PM to raise money for Sub Rosa and the residents of the apartments displaced by the fire. The buffet-style family supper is open to the public. Mark your calendar and come on out!
We will be asking for cash/check donations at the door ($20 per adult/ $10 per child), which will include iced tea and food by Jason Alley (Pasture/Comfort), Tim Bereika (Secco Wine Bar), Randy Doetzer (Mint/Julep’s), Joe Sparatta (Heritage), Phillip Denny (Aziza’s), Owen Lane (The Magpie), and Lee Gregory (The Roosevelt). We will also sell alcoholic beverages separately and add those profits to the kitty.

National Night Out planning meeting

1st Precinct MPACT/CAPS

**** CANCELLED**** Mayor Dwight C. Jones and CAO Byron C. Marshall will address the upcoming 1st Precinct MPACT/CAPS meeting on Wednesday, April 10th, at Main Street Station, 1500 E. Main Street, from 6:30PM – 8:00PM.

They will present the budget that you helped balance during the last round of Community Conversations. “Please join us to find out how the report findings will affect your community. Free parking is available and light refreshments will be provided.”

Food Truck Court Benefit for Sub Rosa
