Mosquitoes versus Church Hill – score one for the City!

If you have a stormwater drainage problem that is breeding mosquitoes, call the City. The public utility crew that came to inspect a standing water issue at the end of East Marshall St. did a great job fixing the problem – they even uncovered a storm drain that had been buried so long no one even knew it was there. They cleaned out the storm drains and treated them for mosquitos while they were at it.
Three cheers and huge thanks from the residents at the end of E. Broad and E. Marshall streets to Joseph Brown, Anthony Lewis, Chad Mclaughlin, Derek Joyner and Horace Todd. These guys are friendly, professional and fast. We are looking forward to being able to spend time outside without being swarmed!!!
I think the city is doing a good job with this, but…..Please, please, please be careful if you treat your property for mosquitoes. Beneficial insects are harmed by the poisons (honeybees, butterflies, etc). NO MOSQUITO SQUADS!
This is a 4 year old post but is the only place I see to post this concern. Mosquitos have reached outrageous proportions around our property this year and in Richmond in general. I think a spraying is needed under the circumstances, like they use to do almost weekly when I was growing up. Mosquitoes carry West Nile Virus and other diseases. They kill 750,000 people a year. On the list of the worst cities for mosquitos, Richmond comes in at number 10 this year.
*That is worst cities in the entire country, not just Virginia!
