Same night, 2:30am, same block: young man rang our door bell & knocked several times. Since we didn’t know him personally, and he didn’t seem injured/in-distress, we called police non-emergency.
Woke up this morning to find my scooter missing. It was parked in front of my house in the 900 block of 26th Street.
They cut the cable to my cover, but then left it. Not sure if they tried to yank the chain anchor out of my steps or what. Thwarted by the big chain, though, I guess. Justin – was your scooter locked up?
Justin – also, make sure to call Chelsea at Scoot Richmond with your info. She might be able to help recover it.
We need a ‘bait scooter’ for the east end.
I’d love to catch these f’ckers.
It’s just ridiculous.
around 2:00 am a group of about 10 teenage boys walked down our street 22 and leigh.
This suxx…Rode past there on my Vespa yesterday and I saw that bad boy covered up as usual. @ Justin Def call Chelsea although she’s probably seen this by now.
@Chris- I got plenty of tools, a big garage in Manchester and 3 Vespa’s. I’m also in 7 Hills Scoot Club. If you need any help repairing damage to your scoot I work for free/beer and your welcome to bring it by and we’ll replace any broken bits….also paying Scoot RVA is a good idea for the local economy. 🙂

Thanks, Willis. I think it’s OK.
Ms. Tyson,
Please report groups like that to the Police *ASAP*.
#1) There’s an 11:00 curfew for teenagers.
& 2.) It’s a sure thing they were up go no good.
Listen to your instincts. If it feels/looks/sounds wrong, then pick up the phone and ACT on that feeling.
ten young males walking around church hill – must be up to no good? pray tell, is that your response for young men no matter their race?
if they weren’t doing anything illegal and you don’t know for sure that they are under 18, you have no basis for calling the police and it is a waste of city resources. i’m not even sure the police would respond unless you actually saw a crime happening.
Uh, if someone rings my door bell repeatedly and bangs on the front door at 2:30am, I’m concerned about his/her welfare–and that of me/my family. We did not recognize the young man. He was not in physical distress (we could see him from a window.) But by the time we roused ourselves from bed, and got down to the front door, the young man was simply sitting on our front porch chair, chillin. We did not call 911, but 646-5100 (non-emergency) and asked for a peaceful drive by. I see lots of youngsters/young men and women in my neighborhood–in groups–being themselves. Never a problem. After all, we live across from a city park. We’re used to if. But 2am bangin-on-your-front-door-for-no-apparent-reason ain’t right. What would you have done? If he appeared ill or injured, we would have acted quite differently. But this seemed more like youngin’s get into mischef. Note my neighbor down the block w/ a scooter on it’s side. Probably just a bunch of kids gettin a little out of control. I don’t want em towed off to jail–certainly not. But, a little wake up call/drive by to protect my property and the same of my neighbors isn’t too unreasonable to ask, is it?At 2am? If it had been 8pm at night, i’d a gone outside and given those fellas a neighborly piece of my mind (done that many times before). But 2am, no thanks. BTW, RPD was happy to dispatch–peacefully.
Waste of city resources?? Don’t cops get paid to patrol? What’s the harm in requesting one to ride by a specific location? I see no problem reporting this activity. Having the race card on stand-by was right on time… lol.
Good advice Thornley i agree with you. If you want to be just a good neighbor you keep your eye on groups of individuals out at that hour.
I will report young people out after curfew EVERY time, not just for our safety, but for theirs. The probability of a young person being harmed also goes up late at night.
RKM & Tiny: Thank you both.
“Just a neighbor”: Your response is:
1.) Predictable (“race card”)
2.) Presumptuous (You know what “color” I am??)
3.) Naive (See something/Do nothing??)
4.) Clueless (“Community Policing”=PROACTIVE Community Involvement *In Living Color* >NOT< B&W!)
I haven't posted on CHPN in quite a while precisely because I'd grown so weary of all the usual reactionary "race card" and other tired old viewpoint/reactions.
Ah well, my expectations are again unreasonable.
Looks like that status quo is fervently being kept alive by fear & shortsided minds.
