Agenda for the 7/23 CAR meeting
07/11/2013 7:46 AM by John M
The agenda for the July 23 Commission of Architectural Review meeting (PDF) includes a number of local projects: 2700 E BROAD ST Replace vinyl window and deteriorated siding, remove shutters and railings; 2603 E FRANKLIN ST Replace front porch decking; 202 N 20TH ST Modifications to previously-approved balconies and terrace; 318 N 25TH ST Modify front porch; 2108 E CLAY ST Construct new second-floor rear porch; 14 N 28TH ST Construct new single-family dwelling
Why do certain people in our historic districts get away with what seems like anything, while some of us have to jump through hoops just to paint our houses. 3512 E. Broad St. has installed vinyl siding all over the house and had a black canvas awning installed as a front porch roof. While the house does look more attractive (considering the paint was in terrible condition), it is totally against the rules of ARC for this owner to do this.
Another house across from Chimborazo Park 3412 is falling down. The house is in horrendous condition, but the owner gets away lacking just basic repairs. Birds constantly fly in and out of the house who knows what other wild animals might be living there.
