Sector 111 update for August
Lt.Minton’s Sector 111 August report (PDF) is now available. Sector 111 encompasses Church Hill, Chimborazo, Church Hill North, Fulton, Oakwood, and Union Hill:
We ended July with one more violent crime than we had last year in July. We had the same number of robberies and the same number of aggravated assaults occur in this time frame compared to 2012. The one additional violent crime was a rape that was committed by a person known to the victim. The majority of the aggravated assaults occurred between people that knew each other and decided to use violence to settle things. One was a prostitute that was assaulted at work.
Property crime enjoyed a 9% reduction for July. We did see an increase in burglaries from 7 to 11. 4 of these were commercial burglaries and the rest were to residences. 4 of the residential robberies occurred in Greater Fulton. We have seen an increase in homes being broken into that are either vacant or being renovated. We need the publics help in identifying these individuals. They may appear to be doing work on a house when in fact they are stealing ac units and/or copper from the home. If something doesn’t look right, feel free to call us. We have a place to house people that commit this crime.
We enjoyed a decrease in theft from mo- tor vehicles compared to last year but we need to talk about a trend that we have seen. There is a group of juveniles that walk down streets trying door handles on cars until they find one that is unlocked. When they find one open they go in and take whatever they find that’s valuable.
These juveniles are also stealing mopeds causing an increase of 60% in moped thefts. We have had 8 compared to 5 last year. I can’t stress enough that the moped needs to be kept inside or out of sight. We have stopped a juvenile as young as 11 years old carrying bolt cutters!
We only had one motor vehicle theft this month compared to 5 last year. Overall crime was down 6% in sector 111 for July. See page 3 for my thank you letter to Greater Fulton.
