Missing this dog?
08/25/2013 12:02 PM by John M
@thebrandonpeck: is anyone missing a dog? We think this guy might have hopped into a yard on 24th and M st.
That’s one of those sad dogs from behind Bloomfield’s store. Do the dog a favor and find it a new home.
We have this service our taxes pay for called animal control that takes strays. 646-5573
Animal control kills dogs that don’t get picked up by their owners or adopted i believe
No, Animal Control puts up dogs for adoption that are not picked up by their owners. They do euthanize dogs that are untreatable (for example, hit by car) or un-rehabilitatable (say dog aggressive) or at an owners request (say, for example the person cant afford a private practice vet).
Please dont dismiss the enormous amount of good work they do by suggesting that they just go around killing dogs. You clearly don’t know what the fuck you’re talking about.
here here all bark! I have had great experiences with racac! I have taken several dogs there that I found, checked back in on said dogs and found they were doing well and up for adoption. I adopted two cats from them, and have taken 8 healthy kittens that I found to them. Yeah some of the people that work there are lousy and unfriendly..but that’s everywhere!
Diana..get it together honey! Really?!
I believe Animal Control also works collaboratively with Richmond SPCA. We found a kitten once (ended up keeping her) and when I called SPCA, they told me they do not accept kittens because they have a partnership with AC who takes the animal first then it will get transferred to them to adopt out if the owner is not found. It might just be a program for kittens so I’m not sure.
I pass those poor Bloomfield Market dogs every day. So sad… and even sadder when their only shade tree was cut down a few weeks ago. In 100-degree heat, their only sun protection became doghouses, where they could stew in their own body heat as well. Get this guy a new home!!!!
If you know the address, call Animal Control at 646-5573 so they can make an assessment of the dogs living conditions and health and remove them if need be. What you’re describing could be construed as neglect and abuse. When we do nothing as a community, we are all culpable for the suffering of others. It’s one phone call. Do it.
I have consulted an animal rescue professional regarding those dogs in the past and, sadly, technically, if they have access to water and shelter and aren’t visibly sick, there’s nothing the city can do.
