Hogtober is Saturday
From the Church Hill Association:
Hill Yeah! It’s HOGTOBER time – This SATURDAY, OCT. 5, FROM NOON TO SUNSET.
The Church Hill Association and Style Weekly bring barbecue, bands, and beers back to historic Church Hill. This annual fall festival is full of flavor and fun for the whole family.
Don’t miss the season’s first party. Free to attend, appropriate for all ages and better shared with friends. NO PETS AND NO COOLERS but go ahead and bring lawn chairs and blankets if you like. Libby Hill Park is at 2800 E. FRANKLIN ST. in historic Church Hill.
FAMILY FAVORITES: Face painting, balloon animals and an arts and crafts play station are sure to make the piglet’s squeal with delight. Kid’s young and old can show off their quarterback skills at an ole’ fashion Pigskin Ring Toss. Miss Hot Sauce, Church Hill’s neighborhood sweetheart and HOGTOBER ambassador, is happy shake hands to pose for red hot photos. Watch out, she’s spicy.
FOOD & DRINK: The hill welcomes local barbecue masters and introduces a few new comers to the smoke pit. They’ll all be cooking just for you and are sure to serve up lip smacking, finger licking barbecue all day. All barbecue styles are at your fingertips from Carolina to Memphis on over to the big taste of Texas. We even have Korean barbecue sliders this year. ALAMO BBQ, BUZ AND NED’S REAL BARBECUE, EXTRA BILLY’S, HALLIGAN’S BAR & GRILL and P&T KITCHEN.
TASTING TICKETS AND BALLOTS FOR HOGTOBER’S PEOPLE’S CHOICE: Can’t make up your mind which barbecue to put in your tummy? Well, go ahead and pig out on all of them. Tasting tickets are available for $5 and allow you to try a one-ounce sample from each of the barbecue legends. Each tasting ticket comes with a ballot for you to choose your favorite and help name the 2013 HOGTOBER People’s Choice. It’s a steep hill of competition this year, so let’s see if Alamo BBQ will hold onto its two-time win.
New this year to the hill, MOSAIC FOOD TRUCK will be serving vegan brisket, pork crispies (fried pig skin rice crispy treats) and Korean barbecue sliders and KING OF POPS will have maple bacon and chocolate bacon pops, soo-weet!
You’ll need something cool to wash down those barbecue flames, and we’ll have just what you need on tap or in a glass ( as by special demand wine will again be available this year).
TAKE FLIGHT: It may be fall in Richmond, but the sun never goes down in Cancun! Join us at Hogtober for your chance to win an all-inclusive, seven-day vacation worth $2,400! The trip, courtesy of APPLE VACATIONS, includes round-trip airfare. Stop by the Apple Vacation’s tent and enter to win. While you’re there, try your hand at being a pilot with Newport News Airport’s flight simulator. Church Hill has the best view of Richmond, and now you can fly right above it.
Handicapped parking is available at 29th and East Franklin. There will be a volunteer there to direct you. Limited space available, so come early.
Community: Net proceeds from HOGTOBER festival benefit the CHURCH HILL ASSOCIATION and will help fund educational programs and tutoring in Church Hill schools and crime awareness and prevention programs.
